Oregon Beer News, 10/16/2015
TGIF! I hope you’re ready for the weekend because this weekend of October 16 is a busy one. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please let me know and I can get that updated as well.
Brewpublic’s annual Killer Beer Week returns, starting today (October 16) and running through the 25th! “Killer Beer Week 2015 will kick off on Friday, October 16, at Roscoe’s for Killer Beer Summit and will end on Sunday, October 25, at Old Salt Marketplace for our annual Killer Recovery Beerunch. *Please use hashtag #KBW15 in social media posts & visit brewpublic.com/kbw for updates.” The Killer Beer Summit at Roscoe’s kicks off at 5pm tonight, with a pretty, well, killer beer list.
The Bier Stein (Eugene): The next stop on Elysian Brewing’s Great Pumpkin Roadshow is The Stein, which kicks off today, with the tapping of the pumpkin firkin at 7pm. “The winds of seasonal change are a-blowin’! Pumpkin beers have been making a bold orange presence in our beer cooler; it is time for them to grace our taplist. Because Elysian Brewing insists on making at least a million pumpkin beers, we will be hosting YOU for their annual appearance at our bar, replete with the PUMPKIN FIRKIN tapping at 7pm, which is a pumpkin that has been hollowed out, charred, filled with beer, tapped gloriously, and distributed in the form of FREE SAMPLES. Their standard pumpkin ales will flow, along with some unusual offerings. IN ADDITION, we are tapping a horde of other classic (or soon-to-be classic) pumpkin beers! It’s like a pumpkinpalooza or something…”
Deschutes Brewery (Bend) is holding a Fresh Hop Celebration today at both the Bend and Portland Pubs, featuring flights of fresh hop beers all day long: “We like getting hoppy in October and have decided to take all of the six fresh hop beers we brewed this fall, and put them onto one vertical tray. Join us October 16th, as we celebrate with some damn tasty fresh market specials. This event is kid friendly. Vertical Flight: – FH Wit, FH Scottish, FH Mirror Pond, Hop Trip , Chasin’ Freshies, FH City”
McMenamins Bagdad Pub (Portland) today has their release of the Widowmaker, the barrel-aged version of the just-released Black Widow Porter, starting at 5pm: “Every Autumn, when the chill winds blow and dark shadows fill the formerly sunswept forests of Summer, the Black Widow spins her ebon web to ensnare the senses and tantalize the palates of countless souls. However, this year, the brewers at Edgefield have managed to capture the fiendish arachnid. We’ve incarcerated a portion of this year’s Black Widow Licorice Imperial Porter in one of Edgefield Distillery’s Hogshead Whiskey Barrels for months and the result is a witches’ brew of flavor- from vanilla and oak to dark chocolate and toffee.”
Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland): Tonight they have a Chef & Brewers Dinner from 7 to 10pm: “Enjoy the German experience as our Chef & Brewer create a unique, 5 course dinner. Reservations required.” Call for reservations at 503-796-2739.
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) is celebrating their 9th anniversary today at their Public House: “Join us promptly at 6pm when we’ll toast nine years with samples of our 9th Anniversary Ale (beer details below).. In addition to Anniversary cake being served, Pizza from Oregon Wood Fired Pizza will be available all evening and live local music kicks in at 7pm. Like Oakshire’s 9th Anniversary itself, Oakshire’s 9th Anniversary Ale has a been a long time in the making, exemplifying a passionate dedication to inspired, small batch beers. We started with a crisp Farmhouse Ale, aged it for two years over a mountain of peaches, and matured it for another month with a smaller wild beer and a second dose of peaches.” (Via Brewpublic)
Base Camp Brewing (Portland): Today is the release of their latest collaboration brew: “We named and developed this beer in homage to the first styles popularized via the advents of modern Dutch and American craft beer– the European Kuit and US-style IPA. Our collaboration with Utrecht-based brewers Rooie Dop & RUIG Bier brings these two styles together in a ramped-up version, and then we added some extra fun with a special strain of Brettanomyces (Sach. Brett. Brux Trois).” It’s a 9% abv DIPA that taps at 6pm.
Saturday the 17th, Portland’s Saraveza is turning 7! They are partying all day with brunch at their Bad Habit Room, an Employee Tap Takeover, special sample of Midwest beers, live music in the evening, free cake, and more! Cheers to 7 great years to one of Portland’s best beer bars!
Thunder Island Brewing (Cascade Locks) is also celebrating their anniversary on Saturday—their second. “We’re turning two, join us on Sat Oct 17 from noon to 10pm to celebrate. Live music, lawn games, food and fun. We’ll have door prizes and LOTS of beer. Let it pour! We’ve squirreled away 14 of our beers — have a taste or enjoy a pint. We’ll be serving beers festival style. 1 token = 1 taste.” Congrats!
Bailey’s Taproom (Portland): Saturday they are hosting Green Flash Brewing for their Treasure Chest beer fundraising event: “Established in 2011 by Green Flash Co-Founder and breast cancer survivor Lisa Hinkley, our annual fundraising program raises money to support breast cancer charities. Say Aloha to Treasure Chest 2015, an exotic pink IPA brewed with grapefruit, prickly pear juice and hibiscus flowers. Erupting with fruit-forward complexity, 100% Mosaic hops present aromas of heady citrus and refined stone fruit.” Great cause that’s worth checking out if you get the chance.
