Oregon Beer News, 10/19/2017
Here are the events and news in beer from around the state for Thursday, October 19. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Portland’s Alameda Brewing is turning 21 this year, and tonight they are celebrating their 21st anniversary with live music and beer specials: “We are celebrating our 21st anniversary this year! Come enjoy pints for only $2.10 & LIVE music from Countryside Ride!” They didn’t get a chance to brew an anniversary beer this year, but their winter seasonal Papa’s Old Ale should be out now. Congrats on 21 years!
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting 2 Towns Ciderhouse for a vintage bottle release today from 5 to 8pm: “Vintage cider? Yes! Cider, which is essentially a fruit wine, has just as much aging potential as its vinous cousin. 2 Towns will present four different bottles of their specialty ciders from years past. Join us for this special tasting event! We will tap Hollow Jack and a keg of vintage cider as well. Here’s the list: 2011 Bourbon, 2011 Amity, Fire & Ice, and Cidermaster’s Reserve, Batch 1.”
The Platypus Pub (Bend) is the first Oregon stop for Elysian Brewing’s Great Pumpkin Roadshow which is taking place tonight from 6 to 8pm! “Our biggest event of the year, the King of Pumpkin beers comes to town and takes over the taps at the Platy. Serving 8 kinds of Pumpkin beers, not to mention the hollowed out beer filled firkin/pumpkin they tap to start the party with. Swag for folks in costume. An Elysian Brewer will be in house to talk “Beer” and answer any questions you might have. Please stop by and join us for a good time. Also 8 other taps of non Pumpkin beer goodness, featuring lots of fresh hops for that significant other who might not love a gourd.” Among the usual Elysian pumpkin suspects, there will also be Dark Knife Pumpkin Swarzbier, Cursed Hearse Pumpkin Saison, Gourdfather Pumpkin Barleywine, and Blight Spiced Pumpkin Brown Ale.
Belmont Station (Portland) is throwing down with a Battle of the Lagers featuring Wayfinder Beer today from 5 to 8pm: “Are you a lover of lagers? Do you know the difference between a Helles and Pilsner? Test your knowledge and put your palate to the test with a blind tasting of German and German-style Lager bier. Kevin Davey (Head Brewer of Wayfinder), and Dan Pereyo (S&H Imports) will be on hand to discuss the beers and talk everything lager-y. Kevin and Dan will have swag to give away to those who display great German vs. German-style beer knowledge. They will also be giving away some great prizes to those who can guess all the beers correctly. Better start studying up!”
Eugene’s Beergarden is kicking off a weekend-long pop-up pub with pFriem Family Brewers today, to run through Sunday the 22nd: Ever wanted to treat your palate and visit pFriem Family Brewers but couldn’t make the trek out to Hood River? Well mark your calendars because pFriem Family pFavorites Pop-Up Pub is coming to the Beergarden near you! October 19th thru October 22nd we’re exclusively pouring pFriem beer! Come and find your new pFavorite!”
Widmer Brothers Brewing (Portland): Their Thursday Tap Day beer release is featuring a collaboration Pilsner with Bizzy Brew (homebrewer?): “Thanks to the Timbers Army Fermentation Corps, I had the opportunity to brew a Czech Style Pilsner, called Hat Trick Pils, with Widmer Brewing Company. This is the release party. Come by and enjoy a beer!” The release runs from 4 to 7pm.
