Oregon Beer News, 10/21/2015
Today is October 21, 2015, which to a certain number of you will have a certain specific meaning—it’s Back to the Future Day! Unfortunately the movie had no direct beer tie-ins to highlight, but crack open a beer and have fun with some of the beer news today anyway. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often for updates. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
McMenamins Cedar Hills (Beaverton) has a limited-edition beer tasting today starting at 6pm, featuring Pictish Stone Scottish Ale: “Pictish Stone Scottish Ale is a crisp and boggy brew with earthy aromas and a clean, malt flavor punctuated by hints of coffee and smoke. Accustomed to cool and damp weather? Surrounded by people in plaid and thick beards? Maybe this is Scotland, so belly up to the bar and order a Pictish Stone. Cheers mates.”
Today’s Killer Beer Week event from Brewpublic is a unique one: Killer Farm to Glass Fest, taking place at Imperial Bottleshop & Taproom from 5 to 10pm. The concept is to “celebrate the historic and symbiotic relationship between farmers and craft beer” and features an eclectic taplist which includes such beers as Double Mountain’s Devil’s Kriek, Rogue’s Good Chit Pilsner, and Agrarian Ales (of course). “This not-to-be-missed fundraiser for the National Brain Tumor Society (an important charity to help folks like Brewpublic co-founder Angelo De Ieso who live with brain cancer). The entire List for this event will feature beers and ciders sourced directly from local farms, or even cultivated by the brewers themselves.”
Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland): It’s pumpkin beer time for Rock Bottom! Tonight they have a Pumpkin Ale tapping from 5:30 to 8:30: “Toss that Pumpkin Spiced Latte aside and raise a pint of our autumn inspired ale.” Are you a fan of the pumpkin beer? Then check it out!
All day tomorrow, Thursday the 22nd, all Oregon McMenamins locations will be supporting Umpqua Community College by donating $1 for every pint sold to UCC Strong. “We are looking to generate as large a donation as we can for a very sad and worthy cause. Roseburg Station will also be doing a half-night benefit that same evening.” This is a great cause to help support so if you can, have a pint or two at your local McMenamins tomorrow and help support UCC Strong.
The Green Dragon (Portland): Tonight’s Green Dragon Brew Crew release is featuring Wild Wheat Ale: “Brewed with American barley, wheat, and an experimental blend of wheat ale and hefeweizen yeasts, Wild Wheat Ale is refreshingly light with crisp, tart lemon notes. Come to the Green Dragon for this latest creation from the Brew Crew and be prepared to pucker up.” It’s 5.6% abv and 30 IBUs, and starts at 5pm.
Sunriver Brewing (Sunriver): They collaborated with The Growler Guys on several seasonal brews, a pumpkin beer and (upcoming) a winter seasonal. The pumpkin is out now: “Our collaboration beer with The Growler Guys is now available at select The Growler Guys locations in Oregon. Wicked Chocolate Pumpkin Stout. Super awesome beer! Check out the The Growler Guys website to see when and where you can find it.”
Golden Valley Brewery (McMinnville) has a new wild and fruit ale available now which sounds delicious: Brett Haven. “Brett Haven is Golden Valley’s latest beer to incorporate fresh fruit and barrel aging. This light blonde ale aged 3 months in a bourbon barrel with Brettanomyces yeast before spending another 2 months in an Oregon Pinot Noir barrel with 100 pounds of local Red Haven peaches. Notes of bourbon, oak and Pinot meld with light Brettanomyces character and peach blossoms for a nuanced and refreshing beer. O.G. 1.046 I.B.U. 40 A.B.V. 5.2%”
