Oregon Beer News, 10/22/2013
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, the 22nd of October. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Today’s featured event for Killer Beer Week is Chuck Fest, taking place at The BeerMongers: “Several Chucks, Charlies, and Charles’ represent the regional craft beer industry. So to honor these goodly folks, we’ve brought forth some special offerings brewed for and by, and dedicated to, dudes of this noble name sake. This year, we look forward to beers from Fort George, Sasquatch Brewing, Green Flash, Alameda, Logsdon Farmhouse, Oakshire, and more. Look for beloved Chucks such as Charlie Devereux, Charles Culp, Chuck Porter, Charlie Van Meter, and Charlie Brown to..um..name…a few. Cheers to Chucks everywhere!”
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Washington state’s Lazy Boy Brewing for a meet the brewer and tasting from 5 to 7pm tonight: “Meet Lazy Boy brewer Shawn Loring out of Everett, Washington! In the Biercafe, we will pour the winter seasonal, Mistletoe Bliss, and 6-Toe IPA, an experimental IPA made with oats and named in honor of the brewery cat “Teddy” who has six toes on each foot. Shawn is donating the 6-Toe IPA to Angelo De Ieso to help with his medical bills.”
Stickmen Brewery & Skewery (Lake Oswego) has a special release today of “Mmmm…” Whisky Barrel Aged Imperial Porter from 5:30 to 6pm: “A big smooth dark beer aged for over six months in Temperance Trader whisky barrels from Bull Run Distilling Company in Portland. Well integrated notes of chocolate, dark fruits, vanilla, oak, and a gentle roast character. One not to miss! 9.4%, 34 IBU’s ($8.00/10oz Snifter, No growler fills) We’ll be offering a pour of Mmmm… and a shot of Temperance Trader for $10 from 5:30-6:00 to celebrate.” Sounds like a good one I’d definitely like to try—and yes, I’d get the boilermaker deal.
1188 Brewing (John Day) has a new beer set for tomorrow: “Yes we’re Back in Black!!!!! Black Oak Instigator ale is ready to flow beginning Wednesday. See you at the Pub!” Has anyone been out there way yet to try their offerings on tap?
Columbia County Brewing (St. Helens) had been on hold recently due to the government shutdown, which shut down the TTB as well, but now they’re back on track with an update: “Uncle Sam has given CCB the ok to brew…TTB approval day has come! we are a state and federally approved brewery! we have the land use change, now just need to build out the brewery to city, county, and dept. of Ag specs….Columbia County Brewing kegs will be rolling soon!” Now that they’ve got their paperwork settled, it’s just a matter of time before they are officially brewing and selling beer.
Gigantic Brewing (Portland) is teaming up with APEX tonight for another special keg tapping to benefit Brewpublic blogger Angelo de Ieso: “We’re tapping a keg of Madness – a blend of 2012 bourbon barrel aged Quad and the sour beer from our foudre (the big barrel). 100% of keg sales go to help Angelo Deleso’s medical expenses!”
Lompoc Brewing (Portland) has the latest beer in their Sci Fi IPA series coming out this Friday: “This Friday at Sidebar is the release of “Saaz, Nuggs & Rock N Roll IPA…..Is all my brain and body need.” The 6th in our Classic Rock series of IPAs, this is a collaboration with beer writer John Foyston, who will be in attendance!”
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday event at the Barrel House is featuring “Live” SUPRACOT. “This NW style sour blond ale is a special single barrel project from the blenders. It was barrel aged for eight months in oak before aging another four months on 150 lbs of fresh apricots. 7.5%, $8 glass, $3 taster. Come watch the show then enjoy some on the patio!”
