Oregon Beer News, 10/26/2015
Happy Halloween week! I hope you’re counting down to one of our favorite holidays of the year, and have lined up your spooktacular-themed beers accordingly! Here’s the news for Monday the 26th of October, counting down to Halloween; as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Of course there are Halloween-themed events going on this week, including:
- Saraveza (Portland) has a Great Pumpkin tap takeover on Thursday the 29th.
- McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has a Whiskey Widow release on Halloween.
- The BeerMongers (Portland) has a pumpkin beer tap takeover of their own on Halloween.
- The Bier Stein (Eugene) has a Killer Beer Week tie-in, the “Halloween Edition,” taking place all day long on Halloween.
- Deschutes Brewery (Bend) has their epic annual Halloween Thundercross party Halloween night.
The Horse Brass (Portland): This most iconic (and possibly important!) of Portland pubs is celebrating its 39th anniversary on Sunday, November 1st! To celebrate they are queuing up an amazing taplist (check it out on their events page here) to be pouring, and some of those will be going on tap as early as Friday the 30th (pregame!). Not to be missed if you’re in the Portland area this weekend.
Jeff Alworth of Beervana has several books out now, one of which is Cider Made Simple (all about cider, obviously). This Thursday, the 29th, is the official book launch, taking place at Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider starting at 6pm: “[I]t’s going to be a full-immersion cider experience, tickling your brain as well as your senses. I’ll begin by talking about the book and giving an overview of cider’s terrain, including European archetypes as well as modern American expressions. I will be aided in this endeavor by four of the best cider-makers in America who will be in-house with their ciders as examples of this terrain.” Always good to support your local author—make sure to go!
Rogue Ales (Newport) has a new beer coming out in their Voodoo Doughnuts pink bottle line: Voodoo Doughnut Mango Astronaut Ale. From the press release: “In this collision of crazies, Rogue teams up again with world-famous Voodoo Doughnuts to celebrate two of the greatest inventions on planet earth: beer and doughnuts. Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Mango Astronaut Ale was inspired by the Voodoo Doughnut Mango Tango, a doughnut filled with mango jelly and topped with vanilla frosting and a tangy orange powder.”
1188 Brewing (John Day) has a new beer out: “The BMW (Bavarian Mango Wheat) has been released and is available at the pub! We also have on tap from 1188 this week the Box Canyon Pale, and the Wildhorse IPA. The Mazelnut Brown Ale will be back on this Friday, just in time for Halloween!”
Hop Valley Brewing (Springfield): Their winter seasonal is coming out soon: “Our seasonal winter ale, Festeroo will be dashing into a store near you next week!” Just in time for Thanksgiving.
