Oregon Beer News, 10/27/2011
Here’s today’s roundup of Oregon beer news for the 27th of October. I’ll be periodically updating this list throughout the day as I find out more, and if you have any news to share please feel free to contact me and let me know!
MacTarnahan’s Brewing (Portland): Belmont Station is hosting a tasting of Mac’s “Pyramid Thunderhead IPA, Snowcap Winter Ale, and Apricot, Buffalo Bills Alimony Ale and Pumpkin Ale, Mactarnahan’s Ink Blot Baltic Porter and Humbug’r Winter Ale” from 4 to 7pm. Additionally Bourbon Barrel aged Snowcap will be available on tap.
Ninkasi (Eugene) is taking part in a “Total Tap Takeover” at 16 Tons Union Cafe in Eugene tonight starting at 4pm: 12 taps and 1 cask will all feature Ninkasi beers, and there will also be $8 growler fills.
Calapooia Brewing (Albany) is featured in a “Meet the Brewer” event in Portland at the Green Dragon tonight from 6 to 8pm. Brewer Matt Dickason will be on hand pouring “Goldmember” Belgian Golden Ale, Riparian IPA, and Flood Stage Red.
McMenamins (various) is celebrating the 20th anniversary Halloween release of their licorice-infused Black Widow Porter, first brewed in 1991 at the Thompson Brewery: “This special limited-edition ale was first brewed on October 15, 1991 by the inimitable Duncan Saffir at the Thompson Brewery and has been made under Franklin’s careful watch every year since. This year Black Widow celebrates it’s 20th year as an anticipated Halloween staple, and will be pouring October 27 thru October 31”—see the link for the list of locations where it will be pouring.
Congratulations to Deschutes Brewery (Bend) for winning big at this year’s World Beer Awards with Hop Henge: it won the overall category award for “World’s Best Pale Ale”! Rogue is the other Oregon winner and between the two they brought home a number of awards.
The Holiday Ale Festival (Portland) is taking place from November 30th through December 4th this year (in Pioneer Courthouse Square as always) and they’ve now got the brewery list online (not the beers yet), plus you can now purchase your advance tickets online as well.
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene) has posted a picture of Hellshire II on their Facebook page, with a note about the release date of November 12th (at noon). Hellshire II is a bourbon-barrel-aged Imperial coffee stout, following up from last year’s Hellshire I which was a barrel-aged barleywine. Looks delicious!
Lompoc Brewing (Portland) posted the current Sidebar tap list on Facebook: “On tap at Sidebar today, Voodoo Mild, Fresh Hop Harvest Man Red, 08 Mon Cheri, Steaming California, Flamingo & Monster Mash.”
Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) posted on Facebook that giftcards to HUB are now available online—just in time for the holiday shopping season, methinks.
