Oregon Beer News, 10/29/2013
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday the 29th of October. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Portland Brewing (Portland) is holding their Halloween Release Party for their BlackWatch Cream Porter tonight from 6 to 9pm at their Taproom. With beer specials, Halloweed food specials, a photo booth, live music, and a costume contest (with the prize being “2 club level tickets to the Blazer’s home opener on 11/2”) it should be a fun night!
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday event at the Barrel House tonight at 6pm is featuring “Live” Wolfberry: “This NW style sour ale started as a wheat beer barrel aged for seven months, then aged for an additional 2.5 months on more than 18 pounds wild and domestically tolerated blackberries harvested by the blenders in Sleepy Hollow, OR. Dusty, earthy notes of rich blackberries and pink peppercorn sweetness greet you in the nose. Dark, tart blackberries and dried cane fruit coat the palate, then transition to a complex ending of tart fruit, soft peppery notes and a subtle lingering dark, dry fruit finish. 7.25% ABV / $8 Glass / $3 Taster”
7 Devils Brewing (Coos Bay) is finally all set to open—and tomorrow is the day! “Hey everyone! We are ready for you! We will be open on Wednesday, October 30th from 4-9pm! Thank you all for support, love, energy, and believing in us:) We feel so blessed to be a part of this community.” Definitely check them out if you can.
Breakside Brewery (Portland) is releasing a new year-round IPA, Wanderlust IPA, a beer intended as production to capture more of the remote market (their Breakside IPA is so popular that they decided to brew Wanderlust just for “export” purpose). “It is modeled after our hugely popular double IPA, “India Golden Ale,” that our director of brewing operations, Jacob Leonard, brewed earlier in 2013 as a collaboratiion with Ninkasi Brewing. Made with Mosaic, Summit, Simcoe, Cascade, and Amarillo hops, it is bright golden in color and has intense tropical, dank, and grapefruit notes. By keeping the malt profile as light as possible, the interplay of hop flavors can really shine. The beer clocks in at only 6.6% ABV and 50 IBU, but it packs as much hop flavor and aroma as any IPA out there.” Look for it in bottles (almost exclusively) in Oregon and Washington.
And Breakside is releasing a new beer in conjunction with Bottles in Portland, with a beer named Autumn Gold. “Autumn Gold is a hop forward copper ale brewed to celebrate our unusually pleasant fall weather. Made entirely with Centennial hops, this “session IPA” is intensely floral with notes of lime, blueberries, and forest air. This beer is draft only and will be available throughout Oregon.” That’s taking place this Friday the 1st from 4 to 7pm. Brewers will be on hand to chat up the beer and give out Breakside swag as well.
Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City) is releasing their seasonal winter ale, Bad Santa, this Friday the 1st at the new Tillamook brewery: “BAD SANTA arrives this Friday, November 1st. Be in TILLAMOOK at the Pelican Brewery & Tap Room at 5pm for the release. Brewers will be on hand for Q&A and will be handing out samples. Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, you need to try this beer!”
Plank Town Brewing (Springfield) has a “cask Tuesday” event dubbed “Newton’s Pin” wherein they offer up a special gravity fed cask starting at 3pm with $4 pints of the featured beer until it’s gone. Today’s is a pumpkin beer: “We’re tapping a pumpkin filled with a special brewer’s concoction of Plankenstein. Come in for a pint of this special brew for just $4”
