Here’s the beer news from around Oregon for Tuesday the 30th of October, the day before Halloween. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. Do any of these brewery names ring any bells: Santiam Brewing, Mazama Brewing, Sky High Brewing, Apocalypse Brewing, Swing Tree Brewing, Planktown Brewing, Smith Rock Brewing? They are all names of new (or in development) Oregon breweries that I’ve come across lately, all outside of Portland. That’s at least seven and I’m quite sure there are probably more that I’m not yet aware of, the last one—Smith Rock Brewing—opening up soon in Redmond here in Central Oregon. I’ll have a longer writeup on that and the other breweries but in the meantime, keep a lookout for these guys!

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House tonight is featuring “Live” Marzipan: “This NW style sour triple ale was barrel aged for over eight months, then additionally aged on Apricot noyaux (kernels) for four weeks. You’ll notice sweet marzipan and toasted almond notes with hits of maraschino cherries up front. Sweet almonds and candy on the palate lead to a rich, sweet, lingering mouthfeel that ends with a prolonged maraschino cherry note. This is a super version of the pure Noyaux experience, with nearly 4.5 lbs of Apricot noyaux in this one barrel. 9.45% ABV / $6.5 Glass.”

Belmont Station (Portland) this Thursday has a tasting and meet the brewer featuring Ontario’s Beer Valley Brewing starting at 5pm: “Brewmaster/Owner Pete Ricks of this far east Oregon craft brewery will pour tastes of his Black Flag Imperial Stout, Leafer Madness Imperial IPA, and Pigskin Pale Ale. We’ll have bottles of Fresh Hop Black Flag for sale and we’ll pour Fresh Hop Black Flag and Fresh Hop Leafer Madness in our Biercafe.”

Double Mountain Brewery (Hood River) has a bottle sampling at Beaverton’s Uptown Market tonight starting at 5pm as part of their continued bottle roll out. These are their new half-liter returnable bottles; right now the Kolsch, Vaporizer, IRA and Hop Lava are the offerings that they’ll be pouring.
