Oregon Beer News, 10/31/2011
Happy Halloween! I hope everyone had a great weekend and good beer (any reports on how Night of the Living Ales was?) and will have a safe night tonight. In the meantime, here’s the roundup of beer news from around Oregon today; I’ll be updating this post throughout the day so if you have some news you’d like to share, let me know and it will be added.
Two Kilts Brewing (Sherwood): They are featuring a Halloween “Boo’s N Beer” tonight that will get you $1 off your pints if you’re wearing a costume. Note that “Current Two Kilts Brewing Co. beers available on tap are Pale Ale, Fresh Hop IPA, Belgian Red, and Scotch Ale. Guest tap is Trumer Brauerei Trumer Pils.” Also they make mention of a Pumpkin Ale coming up!
Columbia River Brewing (Portland) has posted a list of their fall and winter beer release dates, which sound tasty: Paddlers Porter 11/4; “Drunken Elf Stout an Imperial Oatmeal Stout 9% ABV infused with Belgian Chocolate and Dry Hopped with 100% Kona Coffee” 12/4 (and at the Holiday Ale Fest); Wee Heavy 12/16 (10% abv).
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): There are still 8 tickets left to tomorrow night’s “Deschutes Brewery University” on Yeast & Beer. The DBU sessions are informative, fun, and fairly advanced from what I gather; they’re popular with homebrewers. The Yeast & Beer session runs from 6 to 8pm tomorrow and costs $25 to attend.
For the Horse Brass‘s 35th Anniversary week, Lompoc Brewing brewed up a tribute beer to Don Younger named Old Tavern Rat that will be on tap all week: “Cellared for a year, this is a very intense (like Don) strong ale with a malty body and plenty of caramel, dried fruit and roast flavors. 9.4%, sold by the glass only for $4.50.”
Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City): “Trick or Treat? Bad Santa goes on the shelf today. Check a store or bottle shop near you.” (from Facebook) (Bad Santa is Pelican’s Cascadian Dark Ale seasonal that is in bottles for the first time this year.)
Barley Brown’s Brewpub (Baker City) posted a photo on Facebook indicating that their seasonal winter beer, Sled Wreck, will be on tap at their pub on Wednesday November 2nd. Sled Wreck is a strong, bold and hoppy barleywine that is about 11% alcohol by volume.
Flat Tail Brewing (Corvallis) has a pumpkin beer on tap: Feathertop Pumpkin Stout. Pint and nitro imperial pints are available starting today.
Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) also has a pumpkin ale on tap today for Halloween (can you see the theme of pumpkin beers here?): El Gourdo Pumpkin Ale, the one they brewed for the Killer Pumpkin Fest a couple of weeks ago. The beer will go on tap today at 3pm at their main location and the BikeBar.
Seven Brides (Silverton) has posted a series of short videos about the brewing of their pumpkin beer on Facebook; they’re filling a giant pumpkin with it!
Lompoc Brewing is also featuring Halloween specials tonight: “Happy Halloween – frightfully good pints of Lompoc’s regular beers are just $2.50 at New Old Lompoc & Oaks Bottom all day & night!”
Migration Brewing (Portland) has cheap pints as well (not because of Halloween, but because it’s Monday). $3 pints all day and evening.
