Oregon Beer News, 10/31/2013
Happy Halloween! I hope you have some spooky beery concoctions planned to go along with trick or treating tonight! Here’s the rundown of the news in beer from across Oregon (with a Halloween slant, of course). As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Three Mugs Brewing (Hillsboro): They’re still not quite brewing their own beers yet but that doesn’t prevent them from pouring guest taps and today is their Halloween Sinful BBQ and Pumpkin Beer Fest from 4 to 9pm: “This is exactly what it sounds like we will have BBQ smoking, Pumpkin Beers/Ciders Flowing at $4 a pint, we will also be tapping a Special Pumpkin beer at 7:00pm, we are having a costume contest: that starts at 7:00pm. Prizes to the top 3. Come and enjoy a great time with good people and awesome drinks.”
The BeerMongers (Portland) has their own Halloween Party & Pumpkin Beer Showcase going on today from 4 to 11pm: “All of our taps will be switched over to showcase our favorite pumpkin beers. Come in costume! There will be some great prizes awarded in our costume contest including Club level tickets to a Blazer game, Timbers tickets and BeerMonger Swag. More fun activities as well.” Gotta love that folks are putting on the pumpkin beers to celebrate the day!
McMenamins Highland Pub & Brewery (Gresham) has a special tasting and meet the brewer tonight starting at 5pm for their Spooky Spider Porter: “Released on Halloween this is the McMenamins Black Widow Porter rested on medium toasted, French-oak spirals that have been soaking in McMenamins very own Cabernet Sauvignon. The added complexity of woody and tannic character in this higher gravity seasonal make it a fine, chewy pint to settle down with as fall gathers momentum into winter. Really, it’s kind of like that sweater you always wear on Sunday when it’s a little crisp out and you leave the windows open for that last bit of fresh air.”
McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has a special Halloween release of three Black Widow Porter versions aged in various spirit barrels: Whiskey Widow Porter, Hogshead Whiskey Barrel Aged; The Black Spot, Three Rocks Rum Barrel Aged; and 2012(!) Barrel Aged Whiskey Widow. These sound fantastic and a definite Halloween treat not to be missed if you can make it! It starts at 5pm and lasts until the beers are gone.
Agrarian Ales (Eugene) has their Harvest Halloween party going on tonight from 5 to 10pm, featuring a costume contest, “adult pinata”, pumpkin beers (and a pumpkin keg!), food specials, and more. Two pumpkin beers listed are Von Tassel Pumpkin Belgian Blonde and Pepo Loco Chile Spice Pumpkin on Nitro—both definitely sound interesting! Eugenites, don’t miss out!
Alameda Brewing (Portland) has a special Halloween-themed beer on tap for your enjoyment: “Come in today & fill up a growler of Zombie Blood Berliner Weisse to enjoy tonight. A sour mash Berliner Weisse with raspberries, blueberries, and cherries added. A malt base of 2-row and wheat malt gives the nice cereal finish on an otherwise tart beer.”
Worthy Brewing (Bend) has a special Halloween edition of their “firkin Thursday” event today which should make you sit up and take notice: “We caramelized the inside of this pumpkin, added a tap, and filled it with Torched Rumpkin Voodoo Brew, a bourbon barrel-aged blend of Lights Out Stout and our Doppelbock. It weighs in at scary 10% – don’t let it possess you! Tappin’ time is 5pm!” Yes please!
Apocalypse Brewing (Medford) has their Halloween festivities going on from 4 to 9pm tonight, including a jack-o-lantern judging content, costume contest, make-up artist, and more. And: “Along with all of the standards, Candy Kornholio and Nickabod Cranium (our just released pumpkin ale, recipe courtesy of Corps member Nick H.) will all be available for $1 off for everyone in costume as well as anyone who brings in their carved jack-o-lantern!”
Swing Tree Brewing (Ashland) has their opening date! “Trick or Treat? We’ve got a treat! We have set an official opening date, November 14th!! Our final okay from the city is on it’s way and the tap house is looking less like a construction zone and more like a bar. We can’t wait to share a pint with you so mark it on you’re calendars and come help us celebrate the opening of Ashland’s new neighborhood pub. See you on the 14th, no tricks!” Two weeks from today!
