Oregon Beer News, 11/27/2018
Today is Giving Tuesday, kicking off the charitable season to focus on holiday giving. Appropriately enough, Tuesdays seem to be the fundraising “pint night” type day of the week for many breweries, so if nothing else, try to stop by and have a few beers at one or more of the events listed below. And the rest of the Oregon beer news for this November 27 is listed, which I will be updating throughout the day; check back in on this post from time to time for the latest updates.
Many Oregon breweries are joining Sierra Nevada Brewing in the California Camp Fire relief effort today, by brewing Resilience IPA, a fundraising beer for which 100% of the sales will be donated to Camp Fire relief. I’ve been trying to keep track of who is joining the effort, and thus far I have: 10 Barrel Brewing, Allegory Brewing, Barley Brown’s Beer, Bierly Brewing, Block 15 Brewing, Boneyard Beer, Buoy Beer, Caldera Brewing, Cascade Lakes Brewing, Conversion Brewing, Crux Fermentation Project, Deschutes Brewery, Double Mountain Brewery, Ecliptic Brewing, Ex Novo Brewing, Flat Tail Brewing, Golden Valley Brewing, GoodLife Brewing, Grain Station Brew Works, Great Notion Brewing, Hair of the Dog Brewing, Heater Allen Brewing, Immersion Brewing, Level Beer, Mystic Roots Brewing, Oakshire Brewing, Omission Beer, Opposition Brewing, Pelican Brewing, Porter Brewing, Rogue Ales, Salem Ale Works, Silver Moon Brewing, Spider City Brewing, StormBreaker Brewing, Thunder Island Brewing, Two Shy Brewing, Unicorn Brewing, Walkabout Brewing, Widmer Brothers Brewing, Wild Ride Brewing, Wolf Tree Brewery, Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery, and Worthy Brewing. Claim 52 Brewing (Eugene) is hosting a $1 A Pint Fundraiser for World AIDS Day at the Claim 52 Kitchen location all day long: “Claim 52 is one of the many businesses participating in a community partnership of fundraising activities leading up to World AIDS Day. $1 from every pint sold is going to HIV Alliance. Come with family and friends and have a drink in honor of World AIDS Day and to support us!”
Oregon City Brewing is hosting its weekly Charity Pint Night tonight starting at 5pm, benefiting the Gladstone Food Pantry: “Unfortunately, too many people in our community have to worry about where their next meal will come from. Join us in support of the Gladstone Food Pantry to bring food to the table of our neighbors this holiday season. Cheers Pioneers!” $1 from every pint sold will be donated to Gladstone Food Pantry.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every point sold benefits a local non-profit organization. In Bend for the month of November, the beneficiary has been the Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA). The Portland Pub this month is donating to the Oregon Brewshed Alliance.
Portland’s Belmont Station is welcoming Bend Brewing Company for a tasting and meet the brewer event from 5 to 8pm: “We welcome the good folks from Bend Brewing for a night of good cheer and fine libations. Established in 1995 BBC (Bend Brewing Co) has been making some of the best and most award winning beer coming out of central Oregon. With a production expansion and the addition of their grand outdoor patio space at their downtown Bend pub, BBC is sure going to turn some heads in the years to come. Try all of their beers, chat with the owner, head brewer and a few BBC teammates and see for yourself why they’ve been doing their thing — and doing it well — as log as they have.”
Baerlic Brewing (Portland) has a can release today for its Arctos Winter Ale: “As the wintry weather returns, so does our beloved Arctos Winter Ale. This year we added Simcoe to the dryhop to add a depth of pineyness along with the classic and resinous Centennial and Cascade. And the 7.3% ABV should help keep you warm!”
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Three Creeks Brewing and Hoodoo Ski Area tonight from 5 to 8pm for a tap takeover: “Bring your appetite and thirst to Eugene on Tuesday, Nov. 27, as Three Creeks Brewing Company and Hoodoo Ski Area invade The Bier Stein for a Beer & Tap Takeover from 5-8 p.m.”
2 Towns Ciderhouse (Corvallis) isn’t able to brew Resilience IPA, but the taproom is aiding in Camp Fire relief today: “Today, along with hundreds of amazing breweries across the nation, Sierra-Nevada Valley Brewery is brewing the RESILIENCE IPA in support of our neighbors in Butte County, CA (who suffered from the worst wildfire CA has ever seen). While we cannot partake in the brewing, we are donating 𝟮𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗮𝗽 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘀𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆 to the cause! So come share a pint and, if you are able to, please make an additional donation to the Camp Fire Relief Fund, established by Sierra Nevada.”
Portland’s Ecliptic Brewing, in addition to brewing Resilience IPA, is fundraising for local causes as well: “It’s #GivingTuesday! We will be donating 10% of our pub sales today to Boise-Eliot-Humboldt School, along with many of the other businesses on Mississippi Ave. Eat & drink for a good cause!”
Xicha Brewing (Salem) has a new beer available for the season: “Introduciendo our Fuerte [foo-er-teh] DIPA ‘Tis the season for strong, hoppy beers to keep us warm. This deliciously badass double IPA is based on Simcoe and Amarillo hops. At 7.8% and 77 IBUs, it’s so good you’ll want to pick up pints as dumbbells and kegs as squat bars.”
Buoy Beer (Astoria) released its seasonal Strong Gale Winter Ale, appearing on draft and in 500ml bottles. From Brewpublic: “Strong Gale Winter Ale is a beer designed to keep Astorians a bit warmer as the temperature dips. The seasonal beer is brewed with Caramel and Chocolate malts that gives this beer a touch of sweetness and warm roasty aromas. These malts are balanced out from the brewery’s use of copious amounts of Simcoe, Comet, and Centennial hops. Strong Gale Winter Ale sits at 7.7% ABV and 70 IBUs.”
Cascade Lakes Brewing (Redmond) has a new beer on tap at its Bend Lodge location: Crimson Dawn Red Ale. “Coming in at 7.6% ABV and 53 IBUs, this red ale is cool walkin’, smooth talkin’ sonofagun. Combining crimson color with a rich body and a delicious blend of caramel, raisin malt flavors and citrus, floral aroma, this beer is dangerously delectable.”
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Porter-pourri: “a blend of sour blond and spiced porter ales aged for over two years in oak wine barrels with a late infusion of rose hips, rose petals and hibiscus. The blend features hints of roasted malt and spice with the added complexity of strawberries, pomegranates and dried cranberries from the infusion.”
Gigantic Brewing (Portland) has its First Taste Tuesday today featuring its uniquely-named holiday ale: “Today’s #firsttastetuesday is the Gigantic Taproom’s debut of The Cat Ate My Stash and Pissed on the Christmas Tree Festive IPA. We’ve got bottles, too!”
Ashland’s Standing Stone Brewing has the first of its seasonal Pints for a Purpose events tonight: “Join us tonight for the first Pints for a Purpose Event this season! Raising awareness for the Bee Girl Organization, $1 for every pint of beer or house made root beer sold will go to their cause! Come on down and show your support!”
10 Barrel Brewing (Bend) has its Charity Tuesday starting at 5pm at the Portland Pub, benefiting Community Warehouse furniture bank: “Show up and support your local furniture bank this Giving Tuesday! Join us for a beer, great grub and all proceeds from 5 -9 pm will support Community Warehouse’s mission to redistribute essential furnishings to neighbors in need. Plus – Community Warehouse is part of Willamette Week’s 2018 Give!Guide – which means you can double down on your support with a donation through giveguide.org!”
Zoiglhaus Brewing (Portland) has a new, possibly archaically-styled beer on tap: “In the north of Bavaria lies Nuremberg, a city particularly adept at crafting Rotbier- a bottom fermented red beer that maybe saw its peak in 1597 but were totally into it so may we present: Zoigl-Rot, a sturdy red lager with a biscuity malt profile perfectly balanced with a snappy and refreshing hop bitterness. 100% the best beer ever for Fall.”
