Oregon Beer News, 11/30/2017
Here is the news in Oregon beer for this final day of November, Thursday the 30th. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
McMenamins Lighthouse Brewpub (Lincoln City) is hosting their Meet our Coastal Brewer beer tasting today from 5 to 8pm, featuring The Bold and the Berryful: “The Bold and The Berryful is a medium-bodied Fruit Ale with a hop profile so mild you won’t even know they’re in there. With the addition of boysenberries as well as blueberries, this beer is bold in fruit flavor. Hence the name: The Bold and the Berryful. Just one taste will have you feeling like you’re sitting in the middle of a berry patch.”
Portland’s Saraveza is kicking off an art sale and showcase featuring the label art of Gigantic Brewing: “From Black Friday until Christmas Eve we’ll be showcasing 16×20 inch posters of Gigantic Brewing’s amazing label art work. Thanks to a deal we worked out we’ll be selling them for $50, a full $10 cheaper than normal! We’ll also have smaller, label sized versions available for sale for the slightly more economical among us. The official kick-off party will be on Thursday, November 30th from 6-9, which also happens to be the day our friend and Gigantic Sales/Marketing Manager Morgan Miller celebrates a birthday!” Some good Christmas shopping ideas right there…
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Three Creeks Brewing for their annual Hoodoo Brew-Ski kickoff tonight from 5 to 8pm: “It’s that time of year, where we tip our glasses to the snow gods in hopes of some sweet powder for the next few months. Three Creeks brewery from Sisters is bringing their beer as an offering, and some sweet prizes from Hoodoo Ski Resort to boot! They will be raffling off a variety of passes and some smaller items and brewery swag– if you like to hit the slopes you won’t want to miss this! We’ll be pouring Hoodoo Voodoo IPA and others from Three Creeks on tap!”
The Holiday Ale Fest continues in downtown Portland today, from 11am to 9:30pm. Cost is $35 to get in, but if you already purchased your entry yesterday then it’s free entry as long as you have the wristband on. In addition to the standard beers pouring (which are all very good), keep an eye on the limited release beers that will tapped today, and at what times—these are some rarities you may not want to miss out on!
McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottleshop (Portland) is holding a Prairie BOMB! Deconstructed event tonight from 6 to 10pm: “Prairie Artisan Ales took their popular Imperial Stout recipe and created four separate beers, featuring each of the key spices that make up Bomb! We’ll have all four on tap: Coffee, Chocolate, Vanilla and Chili. You can taste all of the Bomb! components and pick your favorite…or create a blend of your own!” Being able to blend up your own BOMB! recipe sounds like a great night.
Rock Bottom Brewing (Portland) is hosting the tapping party for their Wicked Elf Brew starting at 5:30pm this evening: “Tis’ the Season for a Beligan Biere De Noel. Dark crystal malts give this beer it’s amber color and rich malt characteristics. We are partnering with Gift of Adoption for this Tapping Party. From 5:30-6:30pm the Wicked Elf will be sold for $3, And for the life of the beer, every .25 cents of each beer sold will be donated to Gift of Adoption as well. See you Thursday!”
Widmer Brother Brewing: Today’s Thursday Tap Day is featuring Noble Fog: “A big, dank West Coast IPA. At 8.0% ABV and 70 IBU, this robust brew reads like an Imperial IPA, but drinks smooth and balanced. Slight tropical notes balance out the dank pine and grassy hop character, while the body of the beer holds up to the aggressive hoppiness without coating the palate too heavily. Stop by the Widmer Brothers Pub and cozy up with a pint of Noble Fog while you can. This limited release brew won’t be around for long. Prost!”
