Oregon Beer News, 11/06/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, November 6th—Election Day edition! Have you voted yet? If not, why not—if you’re old enough to drink beer, you’re certainly old enough to vote! As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters): This Friday, the 9th, is the release party for the brewery’s winter beer, Rudolph’s Imperial Red. It will be available on draft and in bottles, and the brewery will be raffling off tickets for swag as well as a spot for this year’s Rudolph’s Vertical Tasting (something I’m looking for more details about). It kicks off at 6pm and is a good way to start the weekend!
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Their Deschutes Brewery University tonight (topic: Barrel-Aged Beer) still has (as of noon today) 6 tickets available! For only $25 you will “Learn all about the barrel aging process in relation to beer at our next DBU taught by Barrelmaster and Brewer, Jake Harper. Not only will you get to enjoy four barrel-aged beers from Deschutes Brewery including The Abyss 2011, Black Butte XXIV, Collage & The Dissident, but we will also go into depth about how other barrel-aged brews are made as well.” It takes place at the Bend Pub Taproom from 6 to 8pm tonight and is sure to be a good one (everyone loves barrel-aged beers, right?).
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm features “Live” Grey Monk: “This NW style sour blond ale is a young Pinot Gris single barrel project from cellarman Kevin Martin. At first, you’ll notice aromas of pear, apple cider and honeydew. Sweet golden candy and cider notes on the palate follow, leading to a slightly sweet finish that lingers. 9% ABV / $6.5 Glass / $2 Taster.”
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): This week’s Growler Power Hour specials (where you can get a $6 growler fill from 4 to 6pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the selected beers) are a pair of lagers: Legacy Lager and Fall Fest Bavarian Lager. I’m not familiar with the Fall Fest beer, but Legacy Lager is an excellent pre-Prohibition-style American Pilsner that won the bronze at last year’s Great American Beer Festival.
Pelican Pub & Brewery (Pacific City) reports, “Tsunami Stout was awarded a SILVER MEDAL in the Stout export category at the first Brussels Beer Challenge held November 2 & 3 in Brussels.” Big congrats to Pelican for the win, that’s a fantastic stout!
And, as I scan through the other winners on the Brussels Beer Challenge site, I see some two other Oregon winners as well: Deschutes Brewery for Black Butte Porter (a bronze medal), and Ashland’s Caldera Brewing for both their Ashland Amber and their IPA (both gold medals). (And, Pelican also got an honorable mention for Kiwanda Cream Ale.)
