Oregon Beer News, 11/07/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news, post-Election Day edition; we’ll be seeing four more years of homebrewing in the White House, which is always a good thing for beer! As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest updates. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated.
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Portland’s Burnside Brewing for a tasting tonight from 5 to 8pm: “What better way to explore beer than by meeting the people who make it and sampling it together. The whole gang from Burnside will be here for the event, so come and enjoy! Beer Ambassador Ryan Brently will pour samples in our bottle shop of Burnside IPA, Stock Ale, Oatmeal Pale, and the Great American Beer Fest 2012 Gold Medal winner Sweet Heat. And we’ll pour a special keg of Bourbon Barrel Stout and Permafrost Winter Warmer in our Biercafe.” And don’t forget to check out Burnside’s Chili Beer Flight tomorrow at the brewery.
Hair of the Dog Brewing (Portland): This Saturday, the 10th, is not only the 19th anniversary weekend for HotD (big congratulations on that!) but is also the release date for this year’s Doggie Claws, Cherry Adam and Michael: “There will be a 1 case limit on Cherry Adam and Michael, no limit on Claws. The line forms early, my guess is that people here before 7am should have no problem getting Beer.” Prices and limitations: “Michael and Cherry Adam will have a 1 case limit and are $300 per case of 24 – 12oz bottles, $14 each. Doggie Claws will be $100 per case of 24 – 12oz bottles, $5 each.”
Sky High Brewing (Corvallis): Corvallis’ latest brewery has a new beer release today, Big Attitude Double IPA: “Come for the fun and engage your own Big Attitude. Laurence our brewer will be in-the-house for Hoppy Hour to rap about this big, silky smooth brew … and we’re raffling off Freewheel t-shirts and Sky High gift certificates until 6pm.” The “hoppy hour” starts at 4:30.
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): They recently celebrated their 1000th batch of beer! Batch 1000 Imperial IPA is 10% abv and over 100 IBUs; the brewery writes, “We tossed every hop we could at it. It’s a fantastically complex blond colored stong ale. BATCH 1000’s got layers and layers of flavor, from tangerine to toffee to dark fruit (yeah I know). This is a beer to have a deep existential discussion over. Sip and ponder the universe with BATCH 1000, or just enjoy a beautiful sunset. Either way you’ll be smiling at the end.” Big congrats to Silver Moon for going strong!
Fort George Brewery (Astoria): Their annual “North Series” seasonal winter ale will be out this week: “North VI will be released this Friday at 4pm in the Public House and throughout Portland! It is a 7.1% Coffee-Cranberry-Porter that is sure to make the Holidays warm.” The recipe changes each year’s was fruitcake inspired, and for this year a cranberry porter sounds pretty interesting! I’ll be looking forward to trying this one when the bottles his town.
