Oregon Beer News, 11/09/2012
TGIF! Hope your weekend is looking good; here’s the news in Oregon beer for it! As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters) has their release party for their annual holiday ale, Rudolph’s Imperial Red (now in its fifth year!), taking place today starting at 6pm. It’ll be available on tap as well as being offered for sale in bottles, and the brewery will be holding a raffle for swag and the chance to participate in a special Rudolph’s vertical tasting—something I don’t have details on yet but I’ll be a five-year vertical of this beer would be a lot of fun!
Hair of the Dog Brewing (Portland): Their famous annual dock sale takes places tomorrow during HotD’s 19th(!) anniversary weekend, with this year’s editions of Doggie Claws, Cherry Adam, and Michael going on sale starting at 10am. This is one of the one people line up early for—7am is not too early for this sale! The Cherry Adam and Michael will have a one-case limit and are $300 per case (24 12-ounce bottles) or $14 per bottle, and Doggie Claws will be $100 per case, or $5 per bottle. And as a bonus, there will also be a special auction for Dave: “[W]e will be doing a fundraiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind. We will have a silent auction for some Dave. The top two bids will each recieve a 375ml bottle of Dave. Bidding starts at 10am and closes at noon on November 10th, starting bid is $1400.” Okay, I like HotD as much as the next guy, but $1400 for a starting bid for a single bottle? That seems excessive even to me… (though it’s for a good cause).
McMenamins Old St. Francis School (Bend) is celebrating their eighth birthday this weekend, with live music, food and drink specials, cake, and a special beer (of course!): Ocht Bock. “The number 8 in Irish is Ocht. This is important as the Old St Francis School is celebrating its 8th (ochtu in Irish) anniversary. This beer was made as a traditional style bock with rich malt flavors and mellow hop presence. A lager yeast strain was used for this cold fermented and conditioned beer. Tones of sweet malt fist cross your palate which then meld with the earthy and spicy sense of hops. A low hop bitterness lets the chewy roundness of the malts complete the drink. A great medium bodied yet strong flavored quaff for the warming of the soul on any occasion let alone an anniversary celebration! Slainte!” It’s 6.3% abv and a perfect accompaniment to the colder weather and birthday weekend!
Natian Brewery (Portland) is having their own birthday celebration this weekend, Saturday night, for their third anniversary! “We’ll start the evening with a tour of Natian Brewery. The brewery tour is a RSVP only event (to RSVP please comment below, along with number of guests) and will start promptly at 7:00pm and run until 7:30ish. Enjoy a refreshing canned beverage, and bask in the glory of Natian’s new 10BBL system. Then we will walk over to Eastburn for a tap take over with Natian to celebrate in style. Word on the street is you may want to bring your dancing shoes!” The Eastburn will have $3 pints of Natian beers, and they have a nice-looking (tentative) taplist posted here. Looks like a fun night.
Fort George Brewery (Astoria): North VI is hitting the taps the the brewery today starting at 4pm! This year’s edition their North Series winter beer is a Coffee Cranberry Porter and 7.1% abv. Expect to see this beer showing up in Portland soon, and I would also assume it will end up in bottles (last year’s was).
16 Tons Beer (Eugene) has their 2nd annual Coffee Ale Fest going on this weekend, from 4 to 10pm each day Saturday and Sunday and featuring a huge number of coffee-infused beers. “Last year we primarily focused on coffee stouts but this year we are expanding our boundaries to include Coffee infused IPAs, Cascadian Dark Ales, Winter Ales, a Blonde Ale, and even a Weizen Bock. Local coffee beer experts Oakshire Brewing will feature 3 different coffee beers including a special version of their Ill Tempered Gnome holiday offering. We will also be offering freshly pulled shots of Water Avenue Coffee to accompany any brew for just $1 as well as several Single Origin Cold Brewed Coffees to add extra punch and unique flavors to the beers!” The entry is free, and tasters cost from $1 to $3.
Bailey’s Taproom (Portland) has their own mini beer fest going on tomorrow (Saturday) from 4 to 11:30pm: BelgianFest 2012. They’ve curated a beautiful list of Oregon-brewed Belgian-style beers to showcase (full list here) and it sounds like it’s going to be a great day. “Nobody loves Belgian beer as much as the Bailey’s crew, which is why for the third year in a row, we’re letting all those esters and adjuncts, fruit and funk run free on our taps. This year’s festival starts Saturday, November 10th at 4 PM for General Admission… [T]here’s no cost at the door. You pay for what you drink. Simple, right? Tastes (4 oz) cost either $2 or $3, depending on the beer, while fills (10-12 oz) will cost $4 or $6.”
