Oregon Beer News, 11/09/2017
Here is the news in beer from around Oregon for Thursday, November 9. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Crux Fermentation Project (Bend): Today is a big day for Crux—Tough Lough release day! For this fifth vintage of the barrel-aged imperial stout, Crux wrote in a press release: “After being banished to Kentucky Bourbon barrels for nearly a year, rich overtones of dark roasted malt, oak-smoked wheat, and malted rye give way to delicate notes of velvety chocolate, vanilla, and dried cherries. This year, our much-loved Imperial Stout, will be available in the share-friendly size of 750 ml bottles — corked, crowned, and wax-dipped with care, of course. And for the first time, we’ll have a nitro version on tap at our tasting room.” For today’s release party at the tap room starting at 4pm, they will be raffling off a four-year vertical of Tough Love, and at 6pm Brewmaster Larry Sidor will be on hand to lead a toast to the beer.
The first-ever Nano Pub Crawl kicks off today on Mississippi Avenue in Portland, and will run four days through Sunday, November 12. Four days, 35 participating breweries(!), eight stops and a passport to get stamped for prizes—should be a lot of fun! “Nano’s are partnering with other Nano’s or teaming up with their friends from well-known breweries throughout the region. The result is a collaboration event like no other to bring one time only creations to Portland. The beer, cider and mead will all be brewed on Nano systems yielding tiny batches of amazing creations. Most participating locations have kid friendly hours making it easy for families to enjoy the event. There will be about 8 pubs participating. To date the following locations have confirmed: StormBreaker, Ecliptic, Verde Cocina, Bridgetown Beerhouse and The Rambler.” Go to the Nano Beer Fest page to find out cost to purchase tickets.
McMenamins Edgefield (Troutdale) has their Meet the Makers beer tasting today, featuring Double Barrel Baltic Porter in the Distillery Bar: “This dark, chocolaty lager bomb is a blend of a smooth, malty Baltic Porter, aged in both Cornelius Pass Roadhouse Billy Whiskey Barrels and Edgefield Hogshead Whiskey Barrels. The two barrels were then blended and kegged to create a unique fusion of flavors from vanilla to oak to toffee and caramel. This lager drinks like a much lighter beer but packs a ton of flavor.” It runs from 5 to 8pm.
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Tonight is their November Brewmaster Dinner, from 5 to 8pm, with a pumpkin theme: “Join us for our ‘Oh My Gourd!’ Brewmaster Dinner. Four courses paired perfectly with five our ridiculously tasty beers.” The menu looks great, and cost is $45 per person. Call 541-386-2247 for reservations.
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Portland Cider Company for the release party for their seasonal cranberry cider today from 5 to 8pm: “In time for the only holiday that features cranberries, Portland Cider Co. is releasing their apple cider infused with the bog-grown fruit. Bounce on down and try some on tap, along with their refreshing standard, Sorta Sweet.”
RiverBend Brewing (Bend) teamed up with Yachats Brewing on a collaboration NE-style IPA fermented with Brett—and they are putting a limited amount on tap on Friday: “On tap this Friday, our collaboration beer with @yachatsbrewing “My Milkshake Brings All The Brett To The Yard” Experimental Wild Milkshake IPA. Mecca Grade malt, Lactose sugar, real strawberry puree, and then fermented with a wild Brett yeast strain. Fruity, hoppy, and creamy with a distinct farmhouse character.” This is an extremely limited release, previously poured as “Strawberry Hill” at their brewery, and us getting a small supply means this is the last chance to get this one-off brew.”
Portland’s Imperial Bottle Shop is hosting Eugene’s ColdFire Brewing for a beer tasting and meet the brewer event at Imperial’s Alberta location from 6 to 9pm: “ColdFire Brewing Company has been one of our favorite younger breweries out of Eugene, so we decided to help them celebrate their recent GABF medal win by inviting them to Portland for a night of beer and fun! Brewer Dan and Stephen from Coldfire will be here, and we’ll be pouring a great lineup of beers. All beers will be available by the glass or as a 4 beer sampler tray for $8.”
Widmer Brother Brewing (Portland): Their Thursday Tap Day beer release today is It Never Rains IPA: “There’s some serious Civil War competition brewing in the Widmer Brothers innovation tanks right now. In a brewery where even founders Kurt and Rob root for opposing teams, we’ve always had an in-house rivalry. This football season, our brewers got together with former players from both teams to brew two small batch IPAs for their fans. This week we tapped It Never Rains IPA (5.5% ABV), a crisp marionberry IPA that pays homage to the marionberry brambles lining the Ducks stadium.”
Worthy Brewing (Bend): From 4 to 9pm tonight is their November Pint Night, where they are donating $1 from every pint sale to a good cause: “Come down to Worthy on November 9th to support the Mt. Bachelor National Ski Patrol. $1 of each pint purchased will be donated! Come early to buy a raffle ticket for your chance to win cool prizes.”
Rock Bottom Brewery (Portland) has a Veteran’s Day tapping party taking place today and tomorrow for their Transition Projects Pale Ale: “Rock Bottom is partnering with Transition Projects for this Tapping Party in honor of Veteran’s Day on Saturday. Did you know Oregon has the most Veteran’s residing in our state? At a whopping 30,000 Vets. From 5:30-6:30pm our Veteran’s Day Pale Ale will be on sale for $3. We will have an America/Veteran’s Day themed Trivia Night, prizes include Free Appetizer, Free Dessert, or RB Merchandise. Raffle Tickets to buy ahead of time and during the event for a chance to win, 3 AWESOME GIFT BASKETS. Rocking out to All-American Music and enjoying a freshly tapped Pale Ale… There’s nothing better! Friday 11/10, we will also have the Pale Ale for $3 pints from 5:30-6:30pm, with all $3 going to Transition Projects.”
Rogue Ales (Newport) has their Yellow Snow launch party today at their Eastside Pub in Portland: “Join us and ¡Hey Fish! for a Baja-style taco pop-up to celebrate the release of our brand new Yellow Snow spruce tip pilsner. Grab yo-self a can of Yellow Snow for only $2 and jump in on one of our festive games.” That takes place from 5 to 8pm.
