Oregon Beer News, 11/10/2015
Here’s the news in Oregon beer from around the web for Tuesday, the 10th of November. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
McMenamins on Monroe (Corvallis) has a special beer release today from 5 to 9pm, featuring the coffee-infused Javanator: “This is a full bodied and flavor packed ale which draws its robust complexity from kiln baked specialty grains. To which was added an oak spiral soaked in coffee liquor and coffee extract. This helps bring out the chocolate, nutty and coffee-like flavor of the beer.”
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Forces Unknown: “…where we are pleased to present the second blend in our Barrel Exchange Program, this time featuring beer from our friends at The Rare Barrel in Berkeley, CA. Forces Unknown blends The Rare Barrel’s Sour Golden ale (a component of their Forces Unseen project) with Cascade’s Strong Blond and Quad ales aged with sour pie cherries and figs. Flavors of cherries, dried fig, lemon peel and oak are combined with a subtle bret character and brilliant acidity. 8.7% ABV.” Would love to be on hand to try some collaboration sour!
Occidental Brewing (Portland) is doing a tasting in Bend tonight at the downtown White Water Taphouse: “Hey Bend, come join Ben this Tuesday evening at White Water Taphouse from 6:30 to 8:30 for a sample of our delicious beers. We’ll have Kolsch, Hefeweizen and Pilsner on draft, and cans of Altbier. If your really nice or lucky, you may find yourself leaving with some swag as well. Cheers!”
PFriem Family Brewers (Hood River): They scored a gold medal at the recent Brussels Beer Challenge! “Right on! Our pFriem Gose won GOLD in the international Brussels Beer Challenge! Out of the 1,100 entries from around the world, American craft breweries took 15 gold, 18 silver, and 16 bronze. A shout out to Jacobsen Salt Co. for their amazing sea salt that helps make this beer shine!”
Other Oregon winners from the Brussels Beer Challenge: Deschutes Brewery (for Black Butte3 and Obsidian Stout), Barley Brown’s (for Breakfast Stout, Pallet Jack IPA, and Turmoil CDA), and Pelican Brewing (for Tsunami Stout). Congrats to all the winners!
Rogue Ales (Newport): This item is a bit goofy but kind of funny: holiday cups! “Our 2015 Holiday Cups have arrived. These only turn red when they’re filled with beer.” Errr… okay!
