Oregon Beer News, 11/14/2017
On this day in 1851, Moby-Dick by Herman Melville was published. What’s this to do with Oregon beer, you ask? As it happens, in 2012 Rogue Ales partnered with Powells Books to release White Whale Ale–brewed with pages from the book. So in the spirit of white whales and literature and just weird beers, here’s the news in Oregon beer for Tuesday, November 14. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today is the release of Sang Royal, returning after a three year hiatus. It will be availabe in bottles and on draft at the Barrel House and the Raccoon Lodge. This 2016 vintage is “a blend of double red ales aged in oak barrels, foudres and puncheons for up to 22 months with Pinot Noir grapes from Oregon’s famed Willamette Valley wine region.” At 9.4% abv this is a big beer and I’m sure will lay down in your cellar nicely for a long time.
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesday’s are Community Pints days at the Bend and Portland pubs, with $1 from every pint sale going to a local non-profit organization. In Bend this month, Deschutes is benefiting J Bar J Youth Services; in Portland, the beneficiary is Kinship House. Make sure to get down to one of the pubs and enjoy a pint or three to help out!
Portland’s Hopworks Urban Brewery is dining for Alameda Elementary School tonight from 5 to 9pm: “Hopworks Urban Brewery on SE Powell will donate 10% of net sales generated from 5-9pm on November 14. These sales are from food, drinks, and merchandise but do not include the sale of gift cards. All you need to do is grab your family and friends and head over to Hopworks, enjoy a family dinner in their pub and relax knowing that you’re dining out is supporting Alameda!”
Standing Stone Brewing (Ashland) has their Pints for Purpose fundraiser today, benefiting Modern Roots Foundation from 5 to 9pm: “Pints for a Purpose is back! Join us Tuesday, November 14th from 5-9pm as we raise pints, funds and awareness for local non profit Modern Roots Foundation. During the event, we will donate a portion of beer and root beer sales to the organization. Come on down, bring your friends and enjoy pints for a purpose!”
Klamath Basin Brewing (Klamath Falls) has their own Pours for a Purpose fundraiser tonight from 6 to 8pm as well: “On Tuesday November 14th, between 6 pm and 8 pm, one dollar of each pint sold at Klamath Basin Brewing Brewpub and Grill will be donated to Badger Run Wildlife Refuge. Badger Run is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the care and treatment of injured and orphaned wildlife. They strive to return these creatures back to the wild; where they belong. For those unable to live free, yet able to live without pain or suffering, they provide life-long care at their facility. They use some of these birds and animals as ambassadors to help educate the public. Through their education programs they try to instill a love and caring for all things wild, illustrate the importance of each interdependent organism in an ecosystem, and educate the public in good stewardship of the environment.”
A number of great options to help give back today!
Cascade Brewing‘s Tap It Tuesday at their Barrel House at 6pm (aside from the Sang Royal release) is Bourbon Maple Walnut: “A blend of three-year-old bourbon barrel aged quad and 14-month-old white wine barrel aged blond with roasted walnuts and maple syrup. This beer will keep you warm with just a kiss of nuttiness and light maple sweetness.”
