Oregon Beer News, 11/19/2015
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Thursday, November 19—can you believe it’s only one week until Thanksgiving? Where is the month going? Anyway, as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.
It’s a big McMenamins day as today is the 30th birthday of their flagship Terminator Stout! All day long at all McMenamins locations, pints of Terminator are $3 and growler fills are $8. Many of the pubs will have Terminator-inspired food specials, and the Mission Theater in Portland has special screenings of the Terminator movie today as well. Go get some!
And today is the grand opening of their new 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop, which features over 800 bottles of beer, cider, wines, and spirits, 16 beers on tap (McMenamins and guests), and for today’s big opening they will have four different versions of Terminator Stout on tap. I posted details the press release previously here. This is definitely one you’ll want to check out!
McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has a limited-edition beer tasting today, starting at 5pm and featuring Concordia Thanksgiving Ale: “This Brown Ale is brewed with a twist: nearly 70 pounds of pumpkin added to the mash. The pumpkin adds a nice earthy kick to the malty base from the Pale and Munich malts. We hope you enjoy this special Holiday treat!” Perfect for the season.
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting Eugene’s Viking Braggot Company today for their Winter Squash Ale release from 5 to 8pm: “The mouthwatering description from the brewery, ’nuff said: “Our Winter Squash Porter is crafted with pounds of hand cut Delecata winter squash and turnip honey to give this dark ale its smooth, velvety flavor. Hand selected roasted and caramel malts give this braggot its rich dark color with robust notes of coffee and chocolate. Copious amount of piney, resinous hops are added at the boil for a fresh, winter bite. We suggest you pair this braggot with a hearty winter meal or enjoy fireside as a dessert.” We’ll tap that keg and one more from our local braggot brewers!”
Uptown Market (Portland) today is hosting the release party for the latest Widmer Collaborator homebrew beer, Max Tieger Sullivan’s Stout: “Hey everyone, Widmer Collaborator winner Max Tieger and Widmer Brothers Brewing invite you to the “Sullivan’s Stout” release party. Crafted from Max’s homebrew recipe on the Widmer Innovation Brew System, this tasty stout is sure to please. Support a fellow OBC’er, tell your friends, and come on out. Cheers!” The party is from 5 to 7pm.
Belmont Station (Portland): Tonight from 5 to 7pm they have a tasting with California’s Almanac Beer: “Almanac has only been available in Oregon for a few months, but you’d never know it based on the huge variety of their beer available. Their wonderful Sales Manager Ryane will be on hand to help you wade through the options. She’ll be pouring a wide selection of their beers with the goal of showcasing everything they do from hoppy, to “classic Belgian”, to funky & sour. On the bar side we’ll have a couple fun Almanac beers on draft for you to enjoy after chatting with Ryane!”
Zoiglhaus Brewing (Portland) is celebrating their grand opening tonight starting at 5:30pm. “Come by and celebrate our Grand Opening with us on the 19th! Music, balloons, give-aways and $1 off beers!”
Barley Brown’s (Baker City): They are at the B2 Taphouse in Salem tonight for a tap takeover, featuring at least 10 taps of (great!) beer, swag, games, and more. Goes from 6 to 9pm.
