Oregon Beer News, 12/05/2018
Today is Repeal Day, celebrating the ratification of the 21st Amendment that ended Prohibition in the United States. How can you celebrate Repeal Day? With a drink of course! And for today, here are the news and events in Oregon beer to help you find the perfect beer to toast the day. I’ll be updating this post throughout the day too, so check back often for the latest.
Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) is holding the release party for its next batch of holiday beer releases at 5pm today, with two beers dropping: Barrel-Aged Motherland Imperial Stout and Straight Up Cashmere Chocolate Orange Stout. Motherland aged more than a year in bourbon barrels, and there is a limited amount; it will be on draft and available in 4-packs of 16-ounce cans for $24. The Cashmere sounds interesting: “Inspired by holiday chocolate oranges, this strong stout is velvety smooth from an excessive use of oats, creamy with chocolate, and slightly citrusy from the addition of orange zest. 7.8% ABV. Available only on tap.”
Belmont Station (Portland) is hosting Wayfinder Beer and S&H Imports for a blind lager tasting event tonight from 5 to 8pm: “We did an event with both of these folks earlier this year and it was so much fun we decided to do it again. This time with some other, more seasonally appropriate lagers. Wayfinder and S&H Imports are bringing some darker offerings to taunt your festive taste buds during this blind tasting. Kevin of Wayfinder & Dan from S&H Imports will be on hand to reward you the efforts for those who can guess all beers correctly. Test your lager knowledge and try to guess which one is brewed locally and which has been imported.”
Saraveza (Portland) is pre-gaming before the Metallica concert in Portland tonight, pouring beers with Stone Brewing: “We’ll be playing all your old-school favorites and pouring Stone’s newest band collaboration “Enter Night” a 5.7% ABV Pilsner designed to help you rock all night! We’ll also have one of our favorites from them, “Xocoveza” an Imperial Stout reminiscent of Mexican hot chocolate featuring coffee, pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a generous amount of their homemade chocolate.”
The BeerMongers (Portland) is hosting Ruse Brewing for a collaboration tap takeover night: “Shaun and Devin from Ruse Brewing have been very busy collaborating with a bunch of their friends. Come and try three of their collaboration beers on Wednesday, December 5th at The Beermongers!!! Collab Beers:
Thought Frequency NE Style IPA w/Great Notion Brewing
Wafel Iron Stroopwafel Imperial Stout w/Moksa Brewing
Sea of Cleverness NE Style DIPA w/Modern Times PDX”
Today is the final day of Sunriver Brewing‘s pop up pub at Lardo Sandwiches in Portland; if you haven’t had a chance to visit and try some excellent Central Oregon beers, today’s the day—make sure to swing by!
Boneyard Beer (Bend) is releasing its Resilience IPA this Friday: “This Friday we’re releasing Resilience Butte County Proud IPA at the pub. We will donate 100% of Resilience sales to the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund to help Butte County rebuild its community. Come on down and drink a pint for a great cause! 6.5% ABV, 55 IBU. Hopped with Zeus, Simcoe, El Dorado & Chinook”
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): The brewery’s collaboration with Bendistillery, Black Butte Whiskey, is out today! Starting at 4pm at the Bend and Portland pubs, you’ll be able to pick up bottles of this third edition of the whiskey, which was created using a Black Butte Porter wash. I’d suggest pairing it with, yes, Black Butte Porter.
And the Deschutes Bend Tasting Room has its New Beer Wednesday out today, with a specialty winter beer: “Come practice your pronunciation while you sip on Jolabokaflod, a winter warmer that’s dry-hopped with spruce tips!”
Modern Times (Portland) has a new hop bomb out for you: “Double Dry-Hopped Critical Band. We escalated this head-snapping 6.7% thunderclap of tropical, citrusy awesomeness to critical levels of dankness via a lavish double dry-hopping with a boatload of precious Citra. Brace your flavor-receptors for an outrageously juicy, beautifully aromatic profile, replete with notes of stone fruit, citrus, and tropical radness and underscored by a crisp, restrained malt bill that expertly carries this delicious, fruity wonder into a soft, beautiful finish. It’s on draft and in 4-packs at Belmont now; what you do with that information is entirely up to you.”
