Oregon Beer News, 12/11/2017
Happy Monday! It’s exactly two weeks until Christmas, which means shopping, shopping, and beer (of course). To accompany your shopping, here’s the news in Oregon beer for this December 11. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
Belmont Station (Portland) has a fun event today from 4 to 8pm: photos with Krampus and a WildCraft Cider tasting: “Krampus, the half demon of Christmas, is coming to Belmont Station. Join Michael Gary Photography for a fantastic photo opportunity with the folklore legend. Take home a quality photo folder with a print of you and the legendary monster for only $10, each additional only $5. Parents: Please note that kids are allowed in Belmont Station until 7 PM, so get your wee ones in early if you want photos with them and Krampus. In addition to the photo opportunities, WildCraft Cider Works will be releasing their amazing winter seasonal cider, Krampus. This cranberry-and-spruce-tipped cider is a must-have around the holidays! Wildcraft will be on hand pouring free samples throughout the event.” I’ve never heard of a photos with Krampus opportunity before…
Santa returns to Deschutes Brewery in Bend for the release of Red Chair NWPA! “Gather the whole family and get your picture taken with Santa and his helpers from 5-8pm. This is an event that everyone can enjoy! From holiday cookies to Red Chair NWPA making it’s much anticipated return on draft. Be sure to wear your best ugly Christmas sweater and take a photo that is worthy to make this years holiday card. Don’t forget to bring your camera. Plus Santa’s helpers will be here to take group photos and make the kids smile.”
Silver Moon Brewing (Bend): Today they are releasing a special variant two pack of Boysen the Wood, their barrel-aged boysenberry Baltic porter. One bottle was aged for a year in Oregon Spirit Distillers bourbon barrels, and one was aged in Crater Lake Spirits Rye Whiskey barrels; the original intent was to blend the two variants, but they liked each so much that they decided to release them individually. These are available starting today in Oregon only. Make sure to get yours!
According to Jay Brooks, on this day in 1998 the Raccoon Lodge opened in Portland, also know as the home of Cascade Brewing. (The Raccoon Lodge recently renamed to The Lodge at Cascade Brewing.) Founded by Art Larrance, the Lodge is located on the western edge of Portland and is a great stop. Congrats on 19 years today!

With raisins, toasted oats, cocoa nibs and the use of 5 different malts, it’s the next best thing to wearing a snuggie on your Grandma’s couch. Now available at the 10 Barrel Pubs. Vanguard Brewing (Wilsonville) has a new beer on tap today: “New beer for this chilly Monday!
