Oregon Beer News, 12/11/2018
Here is the news in beer from around Oregon for Tuesday, December 11. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with news as I find it, so check back in from time to time for the latest. And if you have news to share, feel free to contact me and I can get it posted.
The Bier Stein (Eugene) is hosting a Winter Ale Fest in conjunction with the Eugene Ale Trail tonight from 5 to 8pm: “Spend an evening celebrating Eugene’s local brew culture at the Bier Stein! Taste new and seasonal beers from local breweries who will be there to pour free samples for you. Look for Oakshire Brewing, Alesong Brewing & Blending, Sam Bonds Brewing, Claim 52 Brewing, Viking Braggot Company and WildCraft Cider Works. Drop by for free beer samples, fun games and for the release of Eugene, Cascades & Coast’s new Eugene Tasting Trails app featuring the Eugene Ale Trail!” In fact expect to see 14 breweries represented tonight.
Baerlic Brewing (Portland) has a pair of beer releases today: Yippee-kI-PA India Pale Ale and Altbierior Motives German Alt. The Alt is a classic Dusseldorf Altbier in style, but the IPA is definitely a Christmas beer! “In honor of the greatest Christmas film of all time, we bring you the greatest Christmas Movie themed IPA of all time! Enough resinous pine to take down a terrorist with enough malty sweet left over for the love of his life…Yippee Ki Yay Mother Gruber!” Get them at 4pm. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough for you, Baerlic is overachieving with an additional can release of Pancake House Cocoa Maple Coffee Imperial Stout.
Belmont Station (Portland) welcomes Wayfinder Beer tonight for the release of two beers in cans: “Wayfinder is canning a couple of tasty offerings and we are on the list to be the first to get them. Lagerbier Hell – Crisp, light, refreshing, brilliantly effervescent with a floral, noble hop aroma. NOW in CANS! BeYOB Doppelbock – Quadruple-decocted, extra-strong lager, spawned in homage to Oregon’s legendary doom-metal band YOB. A deep, intense and nourishing brew, conditioned at below-freezing temps for weeks. Epic, crushing, heavy beyond words. BeYOB Doppelbock will be also be on draft for this day’s festivities. Please note: cans will be available all hours of operation in the can and bottle shop.” It takes place from 5 to 8pm. These beers will also be available at Wayfinder’s pub, so don’t miss out!
Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, where $1 from every pint sold goes to benefit a local non-profit organization. For the month of December, the Bend locations are donating to youth development program Friends of the Children, while the Portland Pub is donating to the Chill Foundation. Be sure to stop in and help out with a pint or three!
The Deschutes Portland Pub is also hosting its “Abyss-mas Story” Chef’s Dinner tonight, featuring six courses inspired by The Abyss, along with a vertical flight of The Abyss from years 2013-2018.
GoodLife Brewing (Bend) released its Resilience IPA yesterday, and it’s limited: “Today in the pub, we are tapping Resilience Butte County Proud IPA in collaboration with @sierranevada where 100% of the proceeds go to The Camp Fire, and it will be available for the next week or two only. One of our own GoodLife family members grew up in Paradise and was directly affected.” Be sure to head over and get some!
Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery (Newberg) will be holding its first-ever cellar sale this Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15. “In the spirit of the season, we’re holding our first ever cellar sale! Come out to the brewery and stock up for your celebrations, gifts for your favorite beer lover, or your own cellar! We have four bottled ales (see below) at a 20-30% discount for two days only (see below for specific hours). After you shop enjoy one of our seasonals around the fire in our new winter tent, and if you come on Saturday, stay for our favorite mobile pizza oven: Ash Woodfired Pizza! Kids welcome!” The bottled beers available are Nut Farm (a robust porter), Instinctive Travels (saison), Goldberry (wild saison), and Vale Reserve Cherry (bière de garde aged in French oak Pinot noir barrels).

Donating 100% of Resilience sales to the Sierra Nevada Camp Fire Relief Fund to support those impacted by the Camp Fire. Come raise a pint for a great cause.”

Block 15 Brewery (Corvallis) has a beer returning in cans today: “Cosmic Cold Brew returns [today]—now in 16oz cans! This seasonal favorite elevates our classic Nebula stout with a 24 cold-extraction on freshly roasted Guatemalan Los Cedros coffee beans from our friends at Bespoken Coffee Roasters. It’s releasing at both of our locations tomorrow, with distribution to Block 15 accounts around the PNW starting this week and running through the end of the year.”
