Oregon Beer News, 12/14/2017
Here is the news in beer from around Oregon for this Thursday, December 14. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted too.
Coin Toss Brewing (Oregon City) is getting into the spirit of the season by holding a Bears and Blankets drive today starting at 3pm: “Bring in a new & unwrapped stuffed bear or a blanket and receive a $5 gift certificate good for a future visit to our taproom. All bears and blankets will be donated to Children’s Center, a non-profit child abuse intervention center located in Oregon City.” That’s definitely a good cause, make sure to help out if you can (save that $5 for Coin Toss’ 12 Beers of Christmas coming up this weekend).
McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop (Portland) is hosting a Little Beast Brewing tasting today from 6 to 8pm: “Come try Little Beast Brewing‘s delicious craft beer. Rooted in old world technique, inspired by the abundance of Oregon’s edible landscape and influenced by American brewing ingenuity, they craft their beer naturally with diverse cultures, including Saccharomyces, Brettanomyces, Lactobacillus and wild flora. They age in stainless steel and wood barrels, blend vintages and bottle-condition to create the finest finished product.”
The Bier Stein (Eugene) has a tasting event you’re definitely going to want to attend tonight: a Firestone Walker 5-Year Parabola Vertical. “For certain beers, time does great things. And for all our dedication to freshness, we also appreciate the effects of a few years on a few beers. Firestone’s Parabola barrel-aged imperial stout is one of those. We hope you’ll enjoy tasting through and finding the distinct personalities of each of the vintages. 10 total taps – 5 years of Parabola, SLOambic, Wookus, Mocha Merlin, Luponic 8, and one more!” Wow. It takes place from 5 to 8pm.
Wild Ride Brewing (Redmond): Their 12 Days of Christmas deals continues today at their taproom with the following: “Come into the Tap Room, buy a 6-pack, two can glasses and a bottle opener for only $10! All day Thursday! Cheers!”
Bend’s Boneyard Beer has their first bottled beer coming out this Saturday, a gueuze styled specialty: “For Immediate Release – the Inaugural bottle conditioned small batch of Gooze Cruze is ready to enjoy, and available to the public! This Saturday (12/16) at 11AM sharp in our Taproom only you can get your very own 750ml cork and cage topped champagne bottle – $25 each, limit 2 per person – available until they’re gone! Gooze Cruze – 5.7% ABV, 6 IBU: From Bend, not Brussels – Gooze Cruze uses Boneyard’s proprietary wild yeast culture and is aged in Seguin Moreau foeders. This process creates a complex and balanced version of a traditional Oude Gueuze Style Lambic.”
Full Sail Brewing (Hood River): Their December Brewmaster Dinner takes place this evening from 5 to 8pm, themed “Feast of the Fishes” this month, so lots of seafood. It’s $45 for four courses and an intermission paired with Full Sail’s beers. Call 541-386-2247 to make reservations if you’re interested.
Barley Brown’s Beer (Baker City) is hosting their Red Solo Cup fundraiser event for CASA today: “It’s that time of year again to get your RED on!!! The Red Solo Cup CASA event will be held on Thursday, December 14th! It’s easy to support CASA…Purchase a red solo cup for $3 (it’s up to you what beverage you put in it!) and all proceeds go to the Baker CASA Program. Live music with Add Collard will start at 6pm in the tap house. You can purchase your red solo cup at the restaurant and at the tap house during the duration of business hours.”
Deschutes Brewery is on the third day of their 12 Days of Christmas at the Bend Tasting Room. They are sampling and selling a different vintaged barrel-aged beer each day. Today’s beer is Black Butte XXV—they are counting down backwards on the BBXX vintages!
Wayfinder Beer (Portland) has a NE-style hazy IPA on tap: “HOT DAMN! Our Flower in the Kettle – Hazy IPA is back on tap today! Bucketloads of juicy Mosaic Hops balance between Amarillo and Grapefruit forward Simcoe. 6.7% ABV • 62 IBUs….Get hazed and confused with us….”
Pints Brewing (Portland) has a big new beer on tap today: “Another addition to the taproom today- our talented and illustrious GM collaborated with Alan and they concocted this beast of an amber featuring Australian hops. We’re pleased to present Elan’s Imperial Amber and at 10% it’s no joke.”
