Oregon Beer News, 12/14/2012
Here’s the Oregon beer news for Friday, December 14, and the rest of the weekend. As usual I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
It’s a winter beerfest kind of weekend, with (at least) three different mini festivals going on, starting today with the St. John’s Winter Beer Fest going on at Northern Portland’s Plews Brews, which runs through Sunday. “Plew’s Brews, Oakshire Brewing, and Thurston Beervents present the second-annual St Johns Winter Beer Fest to be held December 14th, 15th, and 16th! Commemorative glasses are $5 and Tickets are $1. We’ll have food from the kitchen and Tim the Sausage Guy outside.” Brewpublic also has the beer list posted, and you’ll have plenty of time this weekend to check them out (3 days worth from noon to closing each day).
Occidental Brewing (Portland) has their first annual Humbug Lager Fest going on tomorrow, Saturday the 15th, all day from noon to 10pm. “The Humbug Lager Fest will feature a variety of, you guessed it, lagers, from Occidental and 7 other Oregon Breweries – Upright, Commons, Heater Allen, Block 15, Laurelwood, Rock Bottom and Old Town. The beers will range from light to dark, Pilsner to Schwarzbier. There will be food for sale from Occidental’s resident sausage purveyor, Urban German. Also, we’ll be giving the PA system control over to attending Brewer DJs. The event will take place indoors, in the taproom and our new adjoining space. Attendance is free. Minors allowed. Hope to see you all there.”
And 16 Tons Beer & Wine in Eugene has their own Eugene Winter & Strong Ale Fest going on this weekend, Saturday and Sunday all day: “70+ Beers from Oregon and beyond. Special drafts and rare bottles. Free entry. Most 3oz Tasters $1. This is a not to be missed event. From 12pm-10pm Saturday & Sunday Dec 15-16 we will have all 70 beers!” They have a great beer list posted and this is definitely one to check out this weekend if you’re in the Eugene area.
Migration Brewing (Portland) is teaming up with Taplister to present “A Holiday Prefunk” on Saturday starting at 7pm. What is a Holiday Prefunk? “Saturday December 15th Migration Brewing and Taplister present the second annual Holiday Prefunk. Migration will be inviting 4 other breweries (Pfriem, Gigantic, Breakside, and Burnside) to pour their choice holiday ale accompanied by 45 minutes of their favorite music. So before heading home for the holidays join 5 fantastic breweries for a night of holiday ales, brewer’s choice playlists, giveaways, and a fun night with great company.” Sounds fun!
Breakside Brewery (Portland) has their Winter Formal also this Saturday, starting at 7:30pm—an unusual event for sure but one that also features the release of six new barrel-aged bottled Breakside beers. It sure sounds fun: “Celebrate the winter holidays by re-living your high school days at Breakside Brewery’s Winter Formal on Saturday December 15th at the Melody Ballroom. This adults only flashback features 10+ craft beers and a dance floor presided over by the likes of DJ Anjali & The Incredible Kid and Boy Eats Drum Machine plus contests and prizes. Tickets are $12 or $20 with 2 drink tickets. Bring a donation for Toys for Tots and receive a free drink ticket (must be a new unwrapped toy). Tickets available [here].”
Three Creeks Brewing (Sisters) has their Rudolph’s Imperial Red Vertical Tasting tonight, starting at 6pm, which I wrote about last night: “Our annual vertical tasting of Rudolph’s Imperial Red will be held next Friday December 14th at 6pm at our pub in Sisters. We have a limited number of seats available. $20 includes a flight of 5 beers and appetizers. The flight will include 2008 Rudolph’s Imperial Red, Whiskey Barrel Aged 2010 Rudolph’s Imperial Red, 2011 Rudolph’s Imperial Red, 2012 Rudolph’s Imperial Red and a sneak peak of the Whiskey Barrel Aged Crosswalk Imperial Porter. We’ve also invited ex-Three Creeks brewers, Pat Shea and Dave Fleming to attend the event to talk about the vintages they brewed in the flight.” $20 for 5 limited beers plus appetizers is a great deal and well worth checking out if you can.
Broken Top Bottle Shop (Bend) has a tasting tonight featuring Double Mountain Brewery out of Hood River: “We’ll be serving tastes from bottles of Falalalala, Kolsch, IRA, Hop Lava, and Vaporizer from Double Mountain, PLUS we’ll have Carrie Ladd Steam Porter and Falalalala on tap!” That runs from 5:30 to 8pm tonight.
