Oregon Beer News, 12/15/2016
It’s another snow day, so I’m getting a late start on the Oregon Beer News post today; here in Bend we got between one and two feet of snow and they are still digging out the neighborhoods. But I’m posting the news, and as usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that posted as well.
McMenamins Kennedy School (Portland) has their Extra Credit beer tasting today from 5 to 7pm, featuring Yule Shoot Your Eye Out! Double IPA: “Hey, beer drinkers! Citrus and pine flavors abound in this tasty Double IPA. The Pilsner and specialty malts provide a solid foundation and delightful red color, and twenty-four pounds of hops help balance the sweetness while contributing a nice pine bouquet, reminiscent of our favorite holiday movie. Have a pint while you wait for the holiday season to come around, yet again!”
Portland’s The BeerMongers will be tapping a rare keg of Golden Valley Brewery‘s Frambtastic Pour Framboise this evening from 5 to 8pm: “Join us on this glorious evening, as we pour one of the only kegs of this delicious raspberry libation to leave the brewery. Plus, Dave will be here!” (I don’t know who Dave is in this case.) They’ve also got a nice specialty GVB taplist lined up.
Bazi Bierbrasserie (Portland) is hosting the perfect event to warm up on this snowy day: Another Night of Glühbiers! “Inspired by the European Christmas Markets in Belgium, Germany, and beyond, it’s time once again to bring this winter warmer tradition to Beervana. Glühbiers! Yes, a night of all warm, spiced beers, ciders, and beer cocktails. There will be Belgian ales (from Belgium!), Oregon ales, festive ciders, and a hot beer cocktail.” Bazi in conjunction with Brian Yaeger is putting on this warming event and they’ve lined up a great lineup of krieks, beers, and ciders to drink. It starts at 6pm, brave the cold for this!
Imperial Bottle Shop (Portland) is featuring Corvallis’ Block 15 Brewery today for a Block 15 Holiday Tap Takeover that runs through tomorrow. They’ll have 10 Block 15 beers on tap and bottles of Figgy Pudding will be for sale. (Unfortunately, Block 15 won’t be able to make it to be on hand due to the weather.)

Hood River’s Double Mountain Brewery now has a cider on the market, and tonight at Bushwhacker Cider in Portland they are doing a cider tasting from 6 to 9pm: “Join us at our Brooklyn pub Thursday the 15th for a tasting of the newest batch of Double Mountain’s Dry Cider. Learn about what makes this cider stand out from a lot of the other brewer made ciders, and also hear about their new Woodstock taproom. And , yes, we’ll even sneak in a bit of beer tasting if you should so choose.”
Bailey’s Taproom is hosting a special blending and tasting event at the Upper Lip tonight from 5 to 8pm: Lauren Salazar’s Favorite Things. “Meet iconic Master Blender and Beer Cellar manager Lauren Salazar of New Belgium Brewing. Recently named Imbibe Magazine’s 2016 Beer Person of the Year and an acclaimed beer sensory expert looked up to by both men and women in the industry and those aspiring to be. Lauren Salazar’s Favorite Things is presented by The New School featuring a curated list of some of Lauren’s favorite beers from New Belgium and beyond + tacos, pizza, cupcakes, rockabilly and much more included in the $5 price tag.” This will be a great event if you’re in downtown Portland tonight.

Transportation will be provided by Old School PDX. Prizes for best dressed! Sponsored by Laurelwood Brewing, Everybody’s Brewing, Double Mountain Brewery & pFriem Family Brewers.”

McMenamins 23rd Avenue Bottle Shop is hosting a Meet Your Maker event today featuring West Linn Brewer Jacob Willson from 6 to 8pm: “Jacob will be releasing his annual holiday offering, Angry Reindeer Double IRA. He’s back, but he’s not happy about it! Our West Linn Brewer will also be offering a Brewer Led Winter Warmer Taster Tray, made up of some of his festive favorites.” About Angry Reindeer: “He’s back, but he’s not happy about it. We’ve all heard the story of a certain reindeer and his red nose. But, do you know how his nose got red? ‘Cause he was madder than a wet hen sittin’ on a cold egg. And you would be too, if you had to wait your turn for Kris Kringle to get out of the way. So, he ain’t waiting this year. Nope, he jumped in line and said, ‘”get outta my way!” So now we have a festive beer, at a festive time. Festivus for the rest of us, I say. So, raise a pint for all those poor deer still stuck eatin’ corn.”
