Oregon Beer News – June 10 and summer break
Happy Monday! Here’s a quick roundup of the Oregon beer news for this week of June 10, but also a note that it’ll be the last in the daily news posts for a while. Summer is getting busy, and I’ll be doing some traveling which keeps me off the keyboard. That will give me some time for more detailed, non-daily posts, as well as the paid print writing I’ve been doing. So, here’s a roundup of news and events for this week:
Portland Beer Week and Medford Beer Week are in full swing, running through Sunday the 16th, with a ton of events taking place daily. Here are some of the highlights well worth checking out if you can only get to a few:
- (Portland) The annual New Oregon Breweries Showcase takes place Monday at Bailey’s Taproom.
- (Medford) The 7th annual Beer & Cheese Extravaganza w/ Rogue Creamery is Tuesday the 11th at Beerworks Medford.
- (Medford) Harry & David hosts The Harry & David Gourmet Grilled Cheese and Craft Beer Festival on Thursday the 13th.
- (Portland) Von Ebert Glendoveer hosts Sour & Wild Ale Seminar: Coolship Edition on Friday the 14th.
- (Portland) Saturday the 15th the Portland Beer & Cheese Festival returns to Culmination Brewing.
- (Medford) Friday and Saturday the Southern Oregon Craft Brew Festival returns.
- (Portland) It’s the return of SNACKDOWN!!!! Brewer/Chef Pairing Throwdown on Sunday the 16th, always a fun event.
Conversion Brewing in Lebanon hosts its monthly Head to Head tasting on Tuesday, featuring dessert and fruit beers: “We will pit two beers in the same style against each other and see who comes out on top. This is a blind beer tasting with food pairing sample. We will have an open discussion about the beers and what we like about them. This Head to Head will include two (2) 5 oz. samples of Dessert & Fruit beers. Our special complimenting food sample pairing will be a tart NY style Cheesecake. Cost is $20. Seating is limited & tickets may be purchased online.”
Redmond’s brand new Initiative Brewing is holding its official ribbon cutting on Friday the 14th: “Initiative aims to offer you a steady supply of reasons to come get a beer. We want to celebrate the great community we have here by being an active part of it. Come celebrate with us at their ribbon cutting!”
GoodLife Brewing in Bend celebrates its 8th anniversary on Saturday the 15th! “Our 8th Anniversary Party will be happening on Saturday, June 15th from 1pm-8pm. This year, we are charging $10 for entry, which includes a free beverage, and is open to the public. The $10 entry is going to be donated to the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council. Tickets will be available at the door the day of the party.We’ll be tapping some unreleased beers that our brewers made just for our anniversary. We have our 8th Anniversary Barrel Aged Blonde with Tangerine and Orange Blossom Tea, Oregon Berry Wheat with Raspberries and Blackberries, and Big Gulp Triple Juicy IPA.”
Oakshire Brewing (Eugene): On Saturday, Hellshire Day returns with its Barrel-Aged Beer Fest: Join us this June 15th, from 12:30pm to 6pm at our Public House in Eugene, to revel in the beauty of Hellshire IX and other rare barrel-aged specialty beers from our favorite breweries from across the country. Hellshire Day 2019 Festival Tickets: are available for purchase now – $30 presale or $35 day-of.” Pre-purchase those tickets here.
On Thursday the 13th, McMenamins Edgefield Brewery is hosting its monthly limited-edition beer tasting, featuring a beer named Passion in The Alps. No description posted at the time of this writing, so let your imagination run wild with this one.
Wolves & People Brewery in Newberg is hosting its Felicitation 2019 and 3rd anniversary this Saturday: “For our THIRD anniversary (!!!) on Saturday June 15, we’re putting together an intimately awesome farmhouse beer fest like no other! With a chef, live bluegrass, and a taplist for the ages, we can’t wait to toast this very big year starting for the brewery! With multiple new releases, including a superb edition of Felicitation (always what we feel is our best barrel-aged reserve of the year), cans of Honeycone (!), B.B.O.I. in 750mls, and a veritable crazy-case of guest brews from around the world, we can’t wait to share these beers on our farm with you! A limited number of tickets will go on sale Friday May 24th at 4pm on our site, www.wolvesandpeople.com. All-ages this year! We’ll also be raising funds for New Avenues for Youth and bouncing to the sounds of Scratchdog Stringband and several other special musical guests!”
I missed this a year ago, but Klamath Falls has a new brewery, Skyline Brewing, that is celebrating its first anniversary on Saturday. From a post announcing the party: “Please join us June 15 from 2-8 PM at the beautiful Spring Lake Ranch, 14343 Spring Lake Road for our first Anniversary celebration. To say the last year has been a wonderful and unexpected ride would be a understatement, and we owe it all to you and want to say thank you!!!! 3 live bands. At least 7 different delicious beers, including one from Nebraska. Lots of good food. Bring a lawn chair and the family, there will be snow cones and root beer for the kids. Cornhole tournament with @og_boards Many more details to follow but mark your calendars it will be a fun day, our motto is go big or go home!”
Pelican Brewing (Pacific City) announced the return of Queen of Hearts, its gin barrel aged saison: “All hail the Queen! Pelican Brewing Company this month re-releases its celebrated gin barrel-aged Saison, Queen of Hearts. Her eminence boasts three Gold Medals and was bestowed with Silver Medals earlier this year at the 2019 Best of Craft Beer Awards and 2019 Australian International Beer Awards. The limited-production Queen of Hearts is available now in 22 oz. bottles and on draft at select locations. Queen will be available for pick-up at Pelican brewpubs in Pacific City, Cannon Beach and Tillamook and specialty bottle shops. Supplies are limited.”
