A new “Ale Trail” mobile app is launching, from Oregon’s Washington County Tualatin Valley Ale Trail. The new app is launching January 3, and like similar programs, as you visit the various breweries and locations on the Ale Trail, you get your “Passport” stamped which is redeemable for prizes.

The Washington County Visitors Authority (WCVA), the official tourism organization for Washington County, Oregon (also known as Tualatin Valley), is launching a mobile Tualatin Valley Ale Trail Passport, a new program that aims to build awareness of the region’s craft breweries.

The passport is a free program that all visitors and locals can sign up for. With 17 local breweries included within the passport, it showcases the region’s craft beer scene in an easy, mobile-friendly way.

Beer lovers who sign up will earn points for each brewery they visit, which will be redeemable for prizes. Prizes include fun items, such as branded beer socks, beanies, bottle opener and coasters. Some participating breweries will be offering special discounts and other incentives. Those who complete the trail and check-in to all of the locations will receive a special commemorative prize.

“Due to the success of our paper Ale Trail passport, we have decided to go mobile and gamify it,” said Dave Parulo, president and CEO of the WCVA. “In an effort to support local businesses and encourage exploration around the region, the new mobile Ale Trail will allow guests to check in with ease, gather points faster and cash in on great prizes, discounts and more.”

The tourism organization worked with Bandwango, a well-known technology company in the travel space, to create the mobile passport. Bandwango technology is designed to support free and paid experiences created by destinations and marketed to visitors and locals.

How it Works

Once launched, beer lovers will be able to visit a dedicated mobile passport landing page at tvaletrail.org where they can sign-up for the Tualatin Valley Ale Trail by providing their name, e-mail address and mobile phone number. A link is then sent to their mobile phone, which opens the passport and directs the user to add the button icon to their home screen, where they can access it any time. There is never anything to download and no bulky apps take up space on a user’s phone.

When a user is ready to redeem their pass, they simply hand their phone over at partner locations to access the savings.

Merchant onboarding is still in progress, and more local breweries may be added. Breweries located in Washington County, Oregon, wishing to be a part of the pass can contact the Washington County Visitors Association for assistance with onboarding.

Interested consumers can sign-up early for the pass by visiting tvaletrail.org. One the pass launches, those who signed-up will receive a text with details to access their individual pass. The pass is expected to launch January 3, 2023.
