Press Release: St Austell Brewery goes bananas… and apples and oranges!
St Austell Brewery is trialling a new scheme to help its staff to eat healthily at work and get their five-a-day.
Generous supplies of free fruit will be on offer daily for all 300 staff based across the Brewery’s St Austell HQ, its main distribution centre at St Columb Major and depots at Heathfield, Cullompton and Ilfracombe.
The Brewery has teamed up with local suppliers Westcountry Fruit Sales to offer a choice of apples, oranges, bananas and pears to staff looking for a snack during the day.
James Staughton, Managing Director of St Austell Brewery, said: “As one of Cornwall’s oldest businesses and a major employer we take very seriously our responsibility to look after people in the workplace.
“We pride ourselves in being a good employer and have worked hard over the years to develop our award-winning training and environmental programmes. We really liked the idea of doing something that directly benefited the health of staff by encouraging them to eat fruit instead of less healthy snacks. We will seek feedback from staff over the coming month and if take up is good, will make free fruit a permanent benefit of working at the Brewery. We’re also delighted to be using West Country Fruit Sales as our suppliers, in line with our company-wide local sourcing policy.”
