Received: 10 Barrel Brewing tinyHaus specialties
This week, I received beers from 10 Barrel Brewing in the company’s tinyHaus small-batch series: Sugar High, a pastry stout with coconut and almonds, and Goat Thievin’ Low Life, a cocktail-inspired beer.
Sugar High is the newest release, a big 11% ABV brew that’s essentially a liquid dessert; the description blurb says:
We asked ourselves an age-old question. How much flavor can one beer contain? In an effort to create the richest, most desert-like character, we blended three different batches of chocolate pastry stout then added a truly absurd amount of coconut and toasted almonds. Over the top? Maybe. Delicious? Absolutely.
It’s the subject of my upcoming print article for the local paper.
Goat Thievin’ Low Life has its base as a sour beer and then goes in the cocktail direction; the description on this one says:
This thirst-quenching cocktail-inspired ale was brewed in collaboration with our friends at San Simón, one of the absolute best places to hork down a cocktail and shower a Mayan deity with offerings. Inspired by their practice of spiking beer with lime juice and a certain red-orange aperitif, we added lime juice, citrus zest, rhubarb, and gentian root to a crisp, drinkable base to create a beer like none you’ve ever had.
(San Simón is a cocktail bar here in Bend.)
Watch for my article on Sugar High, and I’ll get a review out on Goat hopefully soon.
