Received: Guinness Luck of The Dragon fruit ale
Recently I received cans of the latest beer to come out of the Guinness Open Gate breweries (both in Baltimore and Chicago) — Luck of the Dragon, a fruited ale brewed to celebrate the Lunar New Year. It’s brewed with dragon fruit powder and tangerine puree and is a collaboration with Diageo’s Pan Asian Network.
According to the press email, the can artwork was created by Asian-American artist Cher, and:
Proceeds from beer sales will benefit the following organizations:
- Guinness Open Gate Brewery Baltimore is donating to the incredible creatives at Baltimore’s Asian Pasifika Arts Collective (@asianpasifikaart), a nonprofit organization harnessing art to advocate the representation of Asian Americans in everyday life while building cross-community relationships.
- Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago is supporting Stir Friday Night, a Chicago-based AAPI sketch comedy troupe that travels the nation performing improv and sketch shows that educate all audiences, from an Asian- American perspective.
It’s certainly a different beer style than you’d expect from hearing the “Guinness” name, but definitely sounds interesting. (But then, so do other limited and experimental beers from the Open Gate breweries.) It’s 5% ABV and that’s all I know for any stats on this beer, so next step is to drink some!
