The Guinness Open Gate Brewery in the United States (in Maryland, more specifically) features an experimental brewery that brews more than just Guinness Stout. The latest release is one the company sent to me this week—Guinness Old Fashioned Inspired Ale.

As the name states, this is a strong ale inspired by the old fashioned cocktail, aged in bourbon barrels and then with cherry and orange added. The brewery is positioning this as a holiday brew; from the marketing email:

As we enter the holiday season, Guinness has the perfect brew to keep your spirits up from now until the new year! Imbued with rich malt notes of toffee and raisin, and a warm vanilla and oak scent to pair, Guinness Old Fashioned Inspired Ale is perfect match for all your holiday festivities.
