Received: Hopworks Brewery’s seasonal specialties
This week, I received several seasonal beers from Hopworks Brewery, including the new Tequila Barrel-aged Rindless Watermelon Gose, a version of the company’s Rindless aged for six months in tequila barrels. It was just released this month and made an appearance at The Little Woody in Bend over Labor Day weekend; more info down below.
The other two beers are seasonal favorites: Fresh Hop Abominable, the Centennial-fresh-hopped version of Abominable Winter Ale, and Great Gourds of Fire Pumpkin Ale, brewed with ancho chilis and spices. Fresh hops and pumpkin beers, what more could you ask for?
As for the Rindless, here are details from the press release for the barrel-aged brew:
Certified B Corp Hopworks Brewery has released a tart and juicy slice of Pacific Northwest summertime with its Barrel-aged Rindless Watermelon Gose. The limited-run brew has spent six months aging in tequila barrels, resulting in a complex but refreshing sour. The tequila-derived earthiness and the oaky notes balance cleanly with the watermelon, lime and saltiness of the Gose. 6.7% ABV, 10 IBU.
“Our Rindless Gose was already reminiscent of a salt-rimmed margarita, so it made perfect sense to let it hang out in tequila barrels for half a year,” said Ryan Pappe, head brewer at Hopworks. “This is a refreshing summertime choice for sour beer lovers, with a satisfying pucker, juicy aromas and complex flavors.”
The Tequila Barrel-aged Rindless Watermelon Gose is a limited-run brew, available while supplies last in 16-ounce 4-packs at retailers in Oregon, and at Hopworks’ two pubs. Hopworks Brewery is located at SE 29th & Powell Blvd. in Portland, and SE 177th & Mill Plain Blvd. in Vancouver.
Hopworks is always on point with its beers, so I expect this year’s editions of these will be as good as always.
