Updates, upgrades, Theme Week
Some major changes are going to be happening here at The Brew Site over the course of this week, starting (roughly) today: I’m going to upgrading/migrating the site over to WordPress.
Accordingly, there won’t be a Theme Week this month—or if you prefer, the Theme Week is going to be "Upgrade Week".
For the past five-ish years I’ve been writing this blog, it’s been on custom software I wrote myself (using PHP and MySQL), which—while no slouch—is showing its age. And frankly, there’s no way I can keep up with a first-rate open source blogging platform like WordPress; I just don’t have that kind of time.
So, moving to WordPress is the start of taking things to the next level. There will be a lot more options available to play with, and one of the big possibilities is having multiple bloggers—either for guest bloggers or, if someone’s interested enough, a regular gig. And I’m excited by the "playground" aspect WordPress opens up.
So over the course of the next week, things will be sporadic, and maybe messy, and there will probably be some downtime at points as I upgrade everything and get the new system up and running. I may turn comments off during this period, so as not to lose any, we’ll see.
Stay tuned!
Looking forward to it! Should be AWESOME! It’s about time to bust open a beer, too 😀
YAY! I’ve loved wordpress since day one.
Good luck, and much credit to you for coding your own stuff all along. Yup, gotta have a Guinness on St. Patrick’s day!
